paulsaints1553552770 Posted July 26, 2016 Posted July 26, 2016 What do people think might be the best cartridge on a Garrard 401 with SME 3009 (detachable) and a Dynavector P75 Phono stage - Denon 103 or Shure m97xe? Or maybe the question would be better - what difference would you expect with each cart? I ask because neither are currently mounted on a head-shell, so whichever one I choose will need to have the effort of proper mounting applied.
rmc36 Posted July 26, 2016 Posted July 26, 2016 I think one is moving coil (Denon) while the other moving magnet (Shure) and, from what I read, they impart archetypal sound for their type..
Guest Posted July 26, 2016 Posted July 26, 2016 hmmm tricky.... the 3009 usually dislikes moving coils but the old school 103 works in it, on the other hand, the garrard/sme/shure combo is the stuff of legend. both would make good music. i'd start with the standard... the shure.
paulsaints1553552770 Posted July 27, 2016 Author Posted July 27, 2016 OK - went with the Shure - found an unused SME head-shell in the SME box (it had an Ortofon MC 10 super on it with broken stylus - pity) - looks very good - I'll let you know how the sound turns out.
