mikrad Posted September 27, 2010 Posted September 27, 2010 Hey guys! I was a little overexcited with my Paradigm and heard some fluttering noise which i knew immediately what it was... blown cone, completely ripped the cone from the rubber surround. These have those dried pulp cones, so i dont think they are the best thing i can stick in there anyhow. What do you think is a good replacement for the 10"? Jaycar sell a Vifa 10" one for $249 and i know that is a good brand, and also is 200W RMS which matches nicely the amp in the Paradigm. Anyone else have any recommendations? Im all ears and in the market cause my sub is currently coneless! Thanks guys!
Telecine Posted September 27, 2010 Posted September 27, 2010 You should be able to get it re-coned by a speaker repairer. I wouldn't replace the driver with a different one.

It looks pretty average, are you saying that another type of woofer may be different for the whole Qts and Vas kind of thing and that it wont work well?
buzzomatic Posted September 27, 2010 Posted September 27, 2010 Well, re-coning will probably be cheaper, especially if you do it yourself.

Getting it re-coned shouldn't be difficult or costly if that is all that is wrong. You would want to have a very close look at the specs of the original before you decided to replace with something else.
mikrad Posted September 27, 2010 Author Posted September 27, 2010 For someone new to re-coning, where would you start? I havent seen cones at Bunnings ;-) so where would you go to look for them. Do you think it makes a huge diff to a well setup sub like the Paradigm?
Telecine Posted September 27, 2010 Posted September 27, 2010 You can probably buy a kit from a speaker repairer or from ebay. An authorised Paradigm service centre may be able to order the part for you and even fit it. If you haven't done it before, you will find it quite fiddly to do. A non-genuine part may make a difference. It depends on the spec of the original and the replacement.
mikrad Posted October 1, 2010 Author Posted October 1, 2010 Thanks guys, went to Stereobits in Pt Melb, they kitted me up with a new surround and some good instructions, i did it that night, and now after testing, she is back in business, and all that for $30! Thanks again!
