What price did you pay with the 2 glasses ?

I will probably need to run an additional 10m HDMI cable as well so the digital cinema deal my not be a bad option,

even though the screen fabric won't be up to the standard of Evo3D, and wanted to go from a 90" to a 110" screen

in the near future anyway.

No probs.

I bought it from AV Australia Online and they ask not to share exact quotes but I can tell you I got the Projector + 2 x glasses for under $2300 delivered.

Also I'm pretty sure Digital Cinema are selling grey imports, but so long as they honour the warranty it may not matter. Official Australia Optoma stock comes with 3 years warranty.

Projector should look amazing on a 110"inch screen, or even larger, it certainly has the brightness. Oh and another thing I don't see rainbows on the HD33 whereas I did with my Benq W1000 untill I put an ND filter over the lens.. and even then a little, but not a trace of one with the Optoma.

Regardless of where you pick it up from you will love it :)

Any more impressions on this projector now you have had it for about a week ?

How are the 3D glasses, are they fairly comfortable to wear ?

I was surprised that Amazon let me go all the way to payment on this for $1460 USD

which of course means for going warranty, and the 3 years local is outstanding

So far the biggest problem with the projector is that my girlfriend complains I don't spend enough time with her anymore :P

But really, I'm still excited to get home everynight from work so I can play with it. I've clocked Uncharted 3 recently and there were some genuine moments were I yelled out loud

out how cool bits looked. Now that might seem a little lame but I've been gaming since I was 7 and to get that reaction some 26 years later should give you an indicator of how much immersion this thing offers :)

I'm still tweaking some settings to get the best out of black levels/ shadow detail and find I have to turn down the brightness/contrast below all of the preset modes in 2d to get the best image. Its probably suited to a slightly larger screen than mine, which is a 95"inch 1.1 gain from OzTheatre, for 2d, but for 3d all those extra lumens are magnificent. I just watched IMAX under the sea last night as everyone reccomends it as a good example of a "wow" popout moment with the big Cod fish - and I totally agree now. Amazing stuff. Makes you smile having it in your home you know?

I wishing 3d mode had some user presets though as I feel as though I need a movie setting seperate to a game setting, where I prefer to use a different gamma setting for games, but no biggie really.

The Optoma zd201's are fairly comfortable to wear, it comes with an interchangeable nose peice which makes minimal difference I find. I'd say 7/10 for comfort as after an extended period the bridge of my nose gets a little wear. Image quality is top notch, there is no noticeable sign of the red tint the image projects without the glasses (the red sync flash frame), no shifting of color from top to bottom, or glasses induced rainbows. There are some minor reflections in the glasses depending on what is behind you, eg, white cupboard is bad, but it is minor. Sync is flawless and not once have I had to invert sync...which i don't quite understand how as apparently its 50/50 with DLP-link glasses - but that seems untrue with these ones, fortunately.

Mate the amount of times I had this projector in my cart in Amazon, B&H Photo etc before I bought locally was hilarious, so I know what you are going through. I guess at the end of the day I spent a small premium on a good warranty and local support network if anything goes wrong.

Took a bit over a week to get the projector from AV Australia, I think they just put an order in with Ambertech,

but at least you know you are getting the Australian version with 3 year warranty through Ambertech.

I have been reading through the AV and AVS Forums and there are a lot of people who are impressed with this unit.

Some confusion over the models in different countries though.

USA

HD33 comes with 1 year warranty, 8000:1 CR (on/off) 1800 lumens

HD3300 comes with 3 year warranty 10000:1 CR 1900 lumens

UK

HD300x comes with 1 year warranty, 8000:1 CR (on/off) 1800 lumens

HD33 comes with 3 year warranty 10000:1 CR 1900 lumens

AUS

HD33 comes with 3 year warranty 10000:1 CR 1800 lumens

Ambertech show it as having 4000:1 CR which just adds to the confusion, but the manufacturer site states

10000:1 on/off and 500:1 ANSI

The projectors with 3 year warranty are supposed to have the parts that perform best.

I am still waiting for my new projector mount, so only had a chance to test it mounted on a table

and only projecting about a 75" image.

2D performance

I have come from a Mitsubushi HC-1100 720p, so I knew the jump to 1080p with be noticeable,

but the image of the 5th Element using out of the box settings on Cinema mode blew me away.

I had seen the AE7000 and a $5000 Sony recently and to my eyes this was better.

Maybe it is helped by the 6x 6 segment colour wheel, but the richness and depth of the image was very pleasing to the eye.

3D performance

Again it was a very quick test, and I watched part of Journey of man and Resident Evil

and was just in the same Cinema mode (should have read the manual)

using DLP Link glasses (I wondered why there was no emmiter in the box, you don't need one)

The 3D effect was great no cross talk, as with all shutter style 3D you lose some brightness

on the image, but the colours were still very rich, and the projector wasn't set to the brightest mode.

I saw the JVC X3 on the Qld GTG and this was way better,

I also saw a calibrated Panasonic AE7000 about 2 weeks ago and it was darker and not quite as good as the Optoma

I couldn't find anywhere convenient to audition the projector before I bought,

so was just going off reviews, but for just under $2300 with 2 pairs of glasses delivered

this is an excellent performer in both 2D & 3D.

The only real criticism is very little lens shift (+/- 5% vertical) and relatively small zoom ratio,

it makes it harder to mount it to get the image size you require without using the dreaded keystone adjustment.

Joe: what type of glasses did they send you, I got a brand called Hi-Shock not Optoma DLP Link which I thought I would get.

I checked them out and they are a Chinese manufacturer (isn't everyone now)

and they are going for about $120 each on eBay so they must be ok, just not rechargable

which limits you to 1000 hours for the battery.

I have read you can buy an emitter that works with my Samsung TV IR Glasses, and I have 4 pairs of recharge ones.

Hey mate I specifically asked for the Optoma ZD201 glasses as I heard they were the best DLP link type available. You really should have got those delivered too... I'd be considering asking for a swap as it sounds like we got a very similar price. That said I haven't researched your brand at all so they made be quite comparable, I honestly don't know.

Just a quick update regarding further impressions that I also posted on Whirlpool...

I've had the projector running for over 200 hrs now and the black levels have improved a little more. Image is stunning even with some ambient light. I have no issues with input lag and I have been gaming with both ps3 and a modern PC across a variety of games including: Mafia 2, Uncharted 3, Killzone 3, Dead Space, AC3, Flatout 2, GT5 and Witcher 2 all running in 3d via Tridef's DDD ignition drivers for PC, or natively on PS3. Oh and also running Dolphin Wii Emulator @ 1080p in 3D is quite a treat.

Gaming is incredible on this in 3D. I did see ghosting once in Motorstorm I think it was, but from all accounts one occurance in 200+ hours is pretty good. Someone asked where I purchased? Well after much deliberation I ended up buying locally from AV Australia Online – they were competitive when bundled with glasses and offerred a 3 yr Aus warranty ...which I'm damn glad of as the unit I got developed a visual defect and needed to be returned.

To their credit the return process has been painless, very prompt and professional communication and they have paid for the courier to pick up the projector from me. I guess these things happen with electronics but I'm relieved I choose to buy locally in this instance (and not the "chinese-electronics-store-we-don't-pay-tax" type of locally :))

Glad to hear that you got your projector sorted out.

We decided to expand our 2 seater cinema room, by removing a wall to an adjoining room,

and moving the projector.

So I have spent much of the break running cables to the new projector mount and new speaker wires,

and sheeting the adjoining room.

I still have to build a platform for raised seating for the second row.

After moving the projector I have worked out I can have a 120" screen which has just turned up today,

up until then we have been projecting 120" on a grey wall and it has looked great,

so with the new screen it should brilliant.

Only have about 50 hours on the projector and I am loving it and this is just with the initial settings from guitarman.

I'm happy with the glasses but if I get more I may go for the Optomas or even get the RF ones

but 3D would be less than 10% of my viewing time.
