Hi all,

As you're no doubt aware we've had a few days downtime. Fortunately, no data was lost.

In the interim we have relocated web servers, so there will be some changes. Some people will report they cannot see the page, but this will go away after a day or so. Additionally, your page loads will now be a bit slower but there will now be a higher capacity available to everyone - hopefully stopping a few of the IPS errors you are all seeing during high load.

I'd appreciate if you refrain from offering your two cents on levels of service - we're a big forum with a big database, and sometimes stuff breaks. Depending on load, we may even have to relocate once more - but we'll see soon.

Similarly, to ensure stability - the off-topic forum has been hidden from view for now. With that in mind, any off-topic stuff that is posted elsewhere will render your account suspended for a two week period.

Off-topic will return, but for the benefit of all - please hold your typing for a small period of time.

You will now need to log in to the forum whilst we stabilise. This may annoy lurkers which I apologise for, but it's a necessary requirement right now.

Additionally, you may encounter "500 Internal Server Errors". This typically is the MySQL database being locked and is in the process of updating a table, which usually occurs between 12am and 2am Australia time.

Great to see the site back up and running! Good work! As a bonus I had to deal with a supplier via good old email to sort a small issue, and the service he gave was outstanding :D Anyways, time for bed for me.

Hats off again to those involved with the fixit job!

Jeff

Great effort to see it back Caniffe and i'm sure most are happy with your efforts (also whoever else helped and Yeah time for bed).

Whadda youse all going to bed for?

All the fun happens after 2am!

Ok, how many of you clicked that link Ay?

Now, mcduck.....where were we.....

Don't try my patience, PZ.

That wasn't the intention,

actually I'm not sure what's been going on (been working) but I'm assuming OT is off for a few days?

Oh, alright then, seeing as it's for the greater good :P

Well done on getting it back up and running :)

Seems as though there's plenty more to do though, have a break mate, seems you've earnt it.

Hmm, just tried to post this, and the server said it was too busy - so we're still a little fragile ;)

..stuff breaks

( please leave a forwarding address ....dont leave me in Whirlpool..they really are carburettors in there ) :D

That will remain, the days of unthrottled web site processes are long gone.

Thanks Caniffe for all your efforts

we're back.

good job and thanks to the winged one for all his hard work :)

Thanks Caniffe,

As an aside, is there some way we can all kick in a few bucks to buy some Uber kit to help prevent this from happenng in future...after all with 50,000 members a simple membership fee of say $5 will go some way to providing funds for some upgrades...right?

Cheers,

Curious

I had put this elsewhere when we first came back up but I'll put it here too.

My misses said it was great while it was down :P: .......... we actually talked during the outage, much like the good old days when power was lost for hours on end

Thanks all.

Donations have been considered in the past, but there are some problems with that. I'll let you know when that situation changes, but we'll make do as is for the moment whilst we evaluate a few scenarios.
