Nail on the head right there, we don't go into our friends house and trash it do we?, so why go elsewhere and do it, inevitably and I know I will upset a few people here all that happens is you give DTV a bad name, but I guess most here won't give a .... about that either :excl:

Yorac, sorry but I must disagree. We did not go there and "trash it", the worst thing we did was have a polite chat in one thread (actually two if you count the small off shoot) and everyone was quite polite until we started getting deleted for daring to say hello to each other.

I must agree with DrP, having been a member of that other site for a while, it appears to be based on who you know, not what.....

It is a useful place with many decent members, but the moderating, especially of our thread last night left a lot to be desired. I will admit that towards the end some of us, myself included, did push the boundaries, but only after the first of many deletions for posts that harmed no-one.

One thread, one night........but in no way did we trash their house.

We don't didn't go into our friends house and trash it though did we?

All the posts I saw were clean & civil etc...

It's not like we just jumped in there and started posting just for the sake of posting.

Inevitably and I know I will upset a few people here all that happens is you give DTV a bad name, but I guess most here won't give a .... about that either :excl:

No, you won't upset me yorac, I'm always happy to read your posts whether we agree or not.

If anything, I'm probably being more aggressive than I should be....

I've seen overmoderated sites come and go over the years.

One thing site owners need to realise is that the internet has it's own rules in terms of "free speech" and if a chat-site thinks they have the power to shut it down they are seriously deluded. I think the WP mods should have realised that when a forum containing 50,000 members and 1 million posts is closed for a reasonable length of time it is only logical members will post elsewhere and deleting posts simply because people log on and say 'Hi' will serve only to wave the red flag at the bull.

We didn't go there to solely to spam, go off topic, or to increase our post counts.

As I said before I won't go there unless I have to so for me, it's no problem... I'm over it B)

Not saying you guys trashed it ( was making a rhetorical point), I am saying they have their rules (which I also think are too harsh), but they are their rules and it is about respecting their rules whether we like it or not, I enjoy a chat as much as the next person but next time if you all have nowhere to go because they stop you then you won't wonder why

Thats a fair point, like Powerzone though, I'm over it. Lets all move back onto talking tech :D

It would have been quite easy for Whirlpool to have let the thread continue without deleting/hiding every second post and then when DTV was back they could have just deleted the entire thread, so that it didn't tarnish their police state. It wasn't like members from here went on a posting/spamming rampage it was confined to one thread, it was simply a way to catch up and find out the state of play with DTV, a little simple human decency was all that was needed.

It is a useful place with many decent members. . .

I haven't contributed to the Whirlpool forum for a number of years now although I must say my experience with it has been a positive one.

Over the years, I have had a number of technical issues resolved by the contributors over there, either by asking and getting a quick friendly reply or searching a thread myself.

As for the "draconian" rules, I can only assume if they allow contributors to digress in one thread, there will be calls to do the same in other threads.

As I mentioned earlier their deletions were not confined to what their rules regulated against as far as "Pointless posting" is concerned.

They should amend the rule to: including anything that the mod deems pointless and not simply "posts with the apparent intention of bringing their post count up to a point where they become a Participant or Forum Regular."

Simply put, based on their own rules most of the deletions were not warranted.........

..............enough about them let's move on B)

cheers

As I realised whilst bobbing around in the Whirlpool lifeboat :ninja: yesterday, the prolonged 'outage' brought home to us what it would be like if the forum died.

There was also mention of the new Federal govt. pulling the funding.

On that point I mentioned that I am also a member of a forum to do with diet and nutrition where you can become a 'contributing' member, i.e. you chuck them your $US 20 a year or whatever.

You don't have to contribute, but if you do it's mentioned in the same place as we have our TV sets - if you wish. I'm not a 'contributor' as I only visit now and again.

The first objection that springs to mind is that it could create a "two-class" forum - I don't actually see any evidence of this on the other forum but the membership is entirely different in nature so I'm not sure how it would be perceived on DTV.

However the real question is, that if push came to shove, and we were in danger of losing the forum, I for one would cheerfully join any scheme where I could paypal the equivalent of a slab ;) or winecask  or whatever - any thoughts on this, or is this unlikely to arise in the forseeable future?

Though I fully support this Bribie, I believe it to be great in theory, can't see how it would/could work in practice

Tight Ass

What was wrong with the hospitality? TBH, you just just went over there and made it like a big DTV forum gathering, going off topic with useless posts that were not even related to the problem. Im sorry, but thats not on! Oh, some idiot mentioned talking about footy tips. Well, wrong section... glad it was locked.

I suggest Australian-Media.com.au forums as they have a full forum thingy for Digital TV in general here and I don't think Kevin would mind general discussion in one thread

Dont penthouse have a forum we can use :ninja: (or so they tell me)

Yes well......that whole episode only proves the Theory of Parallel and Opposite Universes dunnitT....Whirlpool is obviously an aptly named black hole vortex where anything remotely resembling any sort of humanity or social expression disappears and gets hidden up some dead parrots backside never to be seen in this known Universe again
