By INQUIRER staff: Friday 07 October 2005, 14:18

CHIP FIRM Intel has paid $70 million in cash and shares for Zarlink's radio frequency Front End Consumer Business.

It's Intel UK that's done this - that's a new one for us.

The Zarlink unit develops demodulatr tuner technologies for digital TVs, with that particular unit generating revenues of $53 million in 2005.

Intel said it had bought the unit as part of a suite of products relating to Intel's consumer electronics designs. µ
