chair Posted February 22, 2005 Posted February 22, 2005 ok so are there any mac users out there who have used or are considering getting / using an eye TV. for those unaware, it allows you to view HD TV and record to your existing computer hard drive. see it at streetwise.com.au (no affilition) or http://www.elgato.com/
joeybloggs Posted February 22, 2005 Posted February 22, 2005 Yup every few months we hear of someone buying one for their Mac No one comes here to complain about them (other than the price of course...), so either a / they work or b / they feel they wouldn't get much sympathy
dodo Posted February 23, 2005 Posted February 23, 2005 What's a mac? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> It's a type of McDonalds burger that they replaced with the "Big Mac"
kenneth1503559512 Posted February 23, 2005 Posted February 23, 2005 While a Mac is the abbreviation of Macintosh. Now, if only the elgato EyeTV wasn't so expensive or Macintosh drivers existed for my FusionHDTV USB (or even a new cheap device came out).
joeybloggs Posted February 23, 2005 Posted February 23, 2005 What's a mac? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> It's a type of McDonalds burger that they replaced with the "Big Mac" <{POST_SNAPBACK}> But really it's a replacement for the Lisa, can you imagine the confusion if that name had ever caught on...
anthonysimilion Posted February 23, 2005 Posted February 23, 2005 Ha - don't remind me about the Lisa. A $10000 machine reduced to a mere $2000 to get rid of them...
joeybloggs Posted February 23, 2005 Posted February 23, 2005 http://www.fortunecity.com/marina/reach/435/lisa.htm Apparently In 1989 Apple buried thousands of Lisas in landfill. Awww

I thought this was really cool when I got this working last week.. The binaries are here MythTV for the Macintosh
kenneth1503559512 Posted February 24, 2005 Posted February 24, 2005 (edited) But that isn't possible for me. I don't have an Airport express card let alone a 802.11g Access point (or card) for my PC (only a 802.11b software based access point that isn't used currently (due to the lack of devices)). And the factor that it would be good to take my iBook outside of the house and watch DTV. EDIT: Shame the only device I would get that has Mac drivers (Terratec Cinergy T2) isn't sold in Australia yet (okay, they are third-party drivers, but if they work (which they seem to from reading the posts at http://www.defyne.org/forums) and I had the device, I would be happy). At least it looks like we may get FusionHDTV USB drivers in the future for Mac OS but in a way I would like to be able to use my iBook for DTV already. Edited February 24, 2005 by kenneth
Guest russell22 Posted February 26, 2005 Posted February 26, 2005 Yup I use an EyeTV 410 and Eye Home to stream all my recorded TV shows to my home theatre setup. works great .. total cost $800 for both the 410 (SD digital TV box.. also tunes into HD shows with Dolby Digital.. but at SD video definition) and for the Eye Home to link it to my Hometheatre setup.

Rodsolder Posted March 5, 2005 Posted March 5, 2005 This Eye thing, is not only fixed to mac's. There's a FireDTV which is the "elgato" running MyTheater front end. I'm using MyTheater software as HDTV front end with Intervideo decoders, look great, time shift, any decoder, recording to dvd format and network streaming on a Visionplus.
