RYANDUO Posted February 1, 2005 Posted February 1, 2005 Hi, Not sure if anyone else has the above combination, I purchased these two products 8 weeks ago and whilst watching a HD broadcast about 3 times an evening the screen will go black (sound is still present) and the word Component 2 appears and then the L + R in the top right hand corner before the picture returns. I contacted LG who put me onto Humax, they had never experienced this before, and asked me to remove antenna loop and switch to component 1, which then created a problem for the DVD when connected to component 2. The TV does stipulate that dvd is component 1 and DTV is component 2. Humax ended up coming out on Tuesday 25th January to replace the STB and the same problem occured that evening. I have since been in contact with LG who have confirmed the two are compatible and they had me speak to a technician who feels there may be a problem with the component 2 connection. Has anybody else experienced this? Thanks ryanduo

Have had Humax replace my STB but the flicker is still present. I Will have to pursue the component2 input as a possible cause. Please keep me posted if you find anything out. thanks deano
Guest knet1k Posted February 5, 2005 Posted February 5, 2005 I have the lafinion 70w and same thing happens on component2
Guest Mullett Posted February 6, 2005 Posted February 6, 2005 I had a similar problem with my Sony Projector - seems like it lost the picture signal (or sync with the box) - more frequent at night. This was using the component input. Tried the SD output with S video and no loss of signal but poorer picture! I live on the Gold Coast and the antenna man said it could be because the signal was reduced at night from the transmitter. Even though the box was showing almost full signal I think this is because I have an amplifier (so will always have a strong "signal"?). Another thought was that it might improve with manual tuning to the exact frequency. I got sick of being a HD experimentor so took the box back.

RYANDUO Posted February 7, 2005 Author Posted February 7, 2005 LG are sending out a technician tomorrow, I will let you know what the outcome is. I'm hoping its a component issue after reading the other posts. Regards ryanduo Hello I too have the same combination and yes I have the same screen flicker. RYANDUO Posted February 8, 2005 Author Posted February 8, 2005 Finally got an answer on the problem I'm having and the decision that has been made about what to do. The Lafinion 82W will only accept a display resolution of 576P, which is a progressive resolution and is known for breaking down on component 2 on this model. The LG tech advised to use component 1 which uses 576I known as interlace which is much better way of transmitting the signal, however when using a DVD on component 2, the macrovision becomes enabled. The LG tech mentioned that most DVD players can overcome this by changing the setup. I went to Megamart today and explained the situation and they were running the LG LST4100P on all their TV's and when they swiched to component 2, which is what the instructions state, they had the same problem and the DVD they were playing on component 2 activated macrovision. Megamart got approval from LG to repurchase the Lafinion 82W and it has been replaced with the new Sony KVDA32M36 released last week. The changeover cost me $300, but this TV displays all resolutions up to 1080i. So my advice is not to buy these two items together, individually they are great, but use a SD STB not HD. The LG STB LST4100P is considered one of the better ones on the market. Hope this assists some of you with the same problem and hope if possible you can exchange your TV's. If it is known by LG, Humax do not.

revcam Posted February 9, 2005 Posted February 9, 2005 Thanks for the info. I have the exact same combination (and an LG video/DVD as well). I get the same problem between my LG LST4100P and Lafinion - but more often - sometimes every time the ads come on. I have the STB connected to Component1 and the DVD connected to Component2, and I've just noticed that the same thing happens with the DVD signal on Component2 (dissapointing as I was hoping it was not the TV - sheesh). In my short time with these units I've had the "HELLO" problem (STB freezes and must be turned off then back on), and I'm also getting intermittent changes in sound levels from the RCA (L+R) audio signal to the TV (wheras sound from optical is solid as a rock). My third STB still has the sound problem. I went on a journy to find an LG surround sound System that was compatible with my marvellous Lafinion TV remote, and found that even though the there is an "AUDIO" mode - LG don't make any audio system that is compatible with it (sheesh). I've gone back to a SONY surround sound system. Has anyone else experience the RCA sound level problem with the LG STB? As I'm seriously on the verge of abandoning LG, is there a 76cm widescreen CRT out there that anyone has had NO problems using with the LG LST4100P?

When I plug mine in, I get an ultra wide `screen and a half' type image....and the dvd player freezes...pretty disappointing.. Cheers...

I have the DVD exclusive component OUT connected to the Lafinion component 2 inputs. When I first tried it, the display was very jagged and horizontally displaced. Had some difficulty changing the DVD setting from 50hz to 100Hz (I think it was some component-out setting) - as it was extremely hard to see the settings I was changing. Hope this helps. cheers

Cheers...... <{POST_SNAPBACK}> no probs LG DVD/VCR combo Model # is V8824W There is a "Progressive Scan" setting in the DVD setup menu that can be set to "ON" or "OFF". I've since changed my STB to component 2, and DVD to component 1, and have found that my audio sound level problem has changed from the STB to the DVD - which leads me to believe my lafinion audio IN for component 2 is RS. Still get the component dropout of STB on component 2 at 576p. Is anyone experiencing 576P component signal dropout in their lafinion 82W from other STBs besides the LST4100P? Can anyone pls recommend a 76 widescreen CRT that they have working a treat with the LST4100P??!! cheers

RYANDUO Posted February 15, 2005 Author Posted February 15, 2005 Great news, Megamart delivered the Sony KVDA32M36 76cm today and picked up the LG Lafinion TV. The picture quality is far superior to the LG. The settings on the LST4100P are set to 1080I, and it is producing amazing colour and sharpness. There appears to be more options available with the TV and it has a great picture in picture function, where you receive two pictures of the same size nest to each other. I have seen no flickering with the STB like that with the Lafinion. Hope those that had the same problem have managed to negotiate a deal with the respective retail outlets. Regards

Also the STB often changes channel when TV volume is adjusted with either STB remote or TV remote??? I have discussed the problems with LG's service consultants but after three frustrating weeks, many hours on hold, and explaining the problem repeatedly have made absolutely no progress. Last I heard, their conclusion was signal drop out from the antenna and that this is normal with digital TV????? I explained that I could not accept their conclusion because the problem only occured when the STB/TV are connected via component 1 or 2 (576p) and did not occur when connected via AV composite conection (lower pic quality). LG Service consultant promised to ring me back after discussing my concerns with Tech, but 2 weeks later I've heard nothing. I can only conclude LG are knowingly marketing equipment with known faults. Proceed with caution if you are considering buying these items or anything with the Lucky Goldstar logo. The matter is now being refered to Consumer affairs. Regards Troy

I have had the set top replaced & for the last 8 weeks the tv has been in a state of repair now waiting for it's fourth part to be installed to try to fix this damn thing. I heard others call their settop a footy, I reckon the Lafinion is a boat anchor................
JasonBB Posted April 12, 2005 Posted April 12, 2005 I have the STB, no problems with my setup, projector & plasma.
Guest Nackerz Posted April 19, 2005 Posted April 19, 2005 I have the lafinion 82w and the teac DV-B800 HD STB. I also have the same problem of the screen cutting out and comming back while using component 2 at 576p. I thought it was just the signal droping out but by the sound of all your posts it seems to be more. Also when viewing HD channels the picture jumps up and down slightly, but when viewing SD channels its a very still and fantastic picture. Whats the point of spending $400 on a HD STB when i have to watch the SD broadcasts to get a better picture. Im not sure if its the TV or the STB doing this does anyone else have this problem. But the worst thing with my lafinion is it doesnt seem to be able to display a 60hz signal properly. When using my xbox or anything else displaying in 60hz the screen flickers very noticably. Although this TV produces a nice picture and features for its price these problems are a pain in the ass if your picky about quality and im sure you all are. If anyone has these problems and has had them resolved please help a poor frustrated man out, Thanks.
Gart Posted April 21, 2005 Posted April 21, 2005 Just bought myself the Lafinion 82W from Harvey Norman for $1400 including stand and was having exactly the same problem with picture loss on component 1 & 2 as the rest of you. I went out and bought myself some high quality home theatre DVD component cables and the problem has gone completely and the picture and sound are awesome. Very happy
