Bronal Posted June 8, 2009 Posted June 8, 2009 Does anyone here have any experience of Woo Audio? I was thinking of getting a GES http://www.wooaudio.com/products/wastax.html to drive my Stax Lamdas. I note they don't appear to offer a 240v option. Can this ordered?
Townyj Posted June 8, 2009 Posted June 8, 2009 The back of the Amp is adjustable between voltages 110v-220v. The GES gets great reviews so i dont think you could go wrong with it at all. Only other option would be the KGSS from Headamp or if u wanna shell out some major cash then a Blue Hawaii.
Bronal Posted June 8, 2009 Author Posted June 8, 2009 Thanks for that. The Headamp gear looks good, but the KGSS is more than I want to spend. The difficulty I have with running 220v valve gear on 240v Australian voltage is I believe even the extra 20v can place a strain on the valves (something I didn't know until joining SNA). Perhaps someone can correct me if I've got this wrong. So if I buy the Woo GES, it looks like I'm up for a 240/220v stepdown...
Townyj Posted June 9, 2009 Posted June 9, 2009 I dont think you could go wrong with being safe... Get the Stepdown transformer anyhow. Maybe go for 240v-110v stepdown. I found this on ebay http://cgi.ebay.com.au/1-Step-down-transformer-240V-to-220V-Fused-for-tube-amp_W0QQitemZ120427833556QQcmdZViewItemQQimsxZ20090531?IMSfp=TL090531121001r14667 Seems to be a 240v-220v stepdown, never knew they had these!
minivan Posted June 9, 2009 Posted June 9, 2009 hi alan, ian from sydney aka webbie64 from headfi has the woo audio GES. you might want to drop him a line about the amp. he's very knowledgeable about electrostatic headphone. they are also planning to have a mini meet in sydney early next month http://www.head-fi.org/forums/f24/west-sydney-mini-meet-july-5th-2009-a-420534/ nothing better then having a listen of the amp yourself. as for 240v , i have seen woo audio sell their amp to different place of the world, so i dont think they should have any problem making a 240 v ones. regards
jrisles Posted June 10, 2009 Posted June 10, 2009 I have heard alot of great things about woo audio. In fact Woo Audio was on my short list of two for my next headphone amp purchase. However i went for a Zana Deux instead. A Balanced Zana Deux actually. But Woo Audio was a close 2nd. http://www.eddiecurrent.com/Balancing_Act.html
