There's been a few new users recently typing their email addresses in wrongly (hotmail.com.au ???, bigpond.com.au ???) or other such things. The system won't send a validation email if you make a typo because it doesn't know where to find you.

You should receive validation emails within 5 minutes. If you do not receive the email after an account signup after say a day, please email forums@dtvforum.info with your username and your proper email address and I'll reset it for you.

Any account not validated after 7 days is purged. If you've waited longer than 7 days, simply signup again.

The server remains in Eastern Standard Time. Should you observe daylight savings in your state of residence, please follow the following procedure to adjust the time for your profile:

1. Click My Controls (in your menubar at the top of the forum)

2. Click Board Settings

3. Check the box that mentions "Daylight Savings"

The post times etc will then be more sane.

Some people have questions the need and use of an email address.

Any email address entered into your forum account will be used solely by this forum software. You will only ever be emailed if:

1. You have elected to receive a topic notification on a thread you are watching;

2. If you have requested a password reset;

3. Another member has emailed you through a screened email form. You may elect not to receive such messages by editing your profile.

4. If you have elected to receive PM notifications, you will be emailed these per instance.

5. Other forum-specific announcements if needed.

To facilitate the self-help features of your account, we ask that the email address you enter for your account be valid. Hotmail accounts are acceptable.

If you have lost your email account, please PM and/or email me.

Username alteration requests.

These are handled by a manual process. Please email me if you need yours changed; although, please put some thought into the signup process to allay the need to change it. Your old threads will retain your old username, however any URLs and profile links will redirect users to your new name.

New Members - I can't post!

This is typically caused by new members NOT replying or responding to the validation request you are sent. If you do not act upon the email you are sent, you will not be authorised to create new threads or reply to existing ones. If you have lost the email, click on the 'Resend Validation Email' link.

A change was made in 2007 that requires all new members to make five posts before they are able to post new threads. Please use the provided Red Text Threads that were alerted to you when you signed up.

Please do NOT post supplier or industry contact email addresses without gaining their consent first.

If you are to post an email address, yours or otherwise - please hide the syntax by using the Internet-accepted person AT somedomain DOT com convention. This will help reduce spam.

RSS FEEDS:

Received a question today from a member about RSS Feeds and realised it hasn't been mentioned yet. These are available in the following format:

http://www.dtvforum.info/ssi.php?a=out&f=FORUM_ID&show=10&type=rss

where FORUM_ID is the number of the forum. Check the URL for the &f=XX line for which forum # you are after.

Popular forums:

SD Set Top Box Receivers = 3

HD/SD Set Top Box Receivers = 4

Digital TV Tuner Cards = 9

Digital Pay TV = 71

So if you wanted TV Tuner cards, the URL you throw into your RSS Reader would be:

http://www.dtvforum.info/ssi.php?a=out&f=9&show=10&type=rss

Members no longer have permission to edit posts after one day in duration. This was invoked due to member abuse of previous month-old threads.

Members who maintain a 'Sticky Thread' will be placed into a Senior Member grouping which will allow them to continue to edit their threads. Any member not in this category and who needs to be, please PM me.

Members cannot delete their own threads, and should PM the moderators for assistance.

Gentle reminder on the subject of suppliers. All suppliers and members with commercial interests should read the Forum Guidelines to be familiar with the rules on advertising. It is generally unacceptable, and your post will typically be deleted. Continued breaches of this rule will result in your account being suspended.

Whilst the expansion and acceptable of DTV in Australia is one of the many common shared goals, these forums are not the vehicle for individual suppliers to peddle their wares. With this in mind, listing pricing on products or otherwise attempting to draw members into your website for the purpose of product purchase is not acceptable under any circumstances.

We recommend that all suppliers or members with commercial interests in what they are posting about either include a disclaimer in the post they are writing, or alter their signature. This is a recommended rule, but not enforced.

If you happen across an article on the Internet and feel it has relevance to a thread, please do not copy the article verbatim into a post. This will usually result in a breach of copyright.

It is better to simply include the link to the article with a brief summary of what the link is about.

Users are reminded that some members may or may not be aged 17 years or younger. As such, links or material that would be considered inappropriate for minors is unacceptable.

Users are also reminded that links or material of an illegal or copyrighted nature remain unacceptable.

Both of these are in breach of the forum guidelines.

1. Inappropriate links are not tolerated in any form. Such links include links to pictures and material that you may find on in a male College residence and/or are otherwise frowned on by general society. Given the demographic of this forum (i.e. the entire spectrum), there is limited to zero tolerance on this issue.

2. New members posting eBay links to their sales are not welcome here.

3. All suppliers and vendors are reminded of our guidelines which prohibit active selling and marketing of their stock. There are advertising mechanisms in place for you to advertise (via Google AdWords) and we encourage you to use those mechanisms to benefit the community as a whole.
