  1. Interesting. Yep, she said the strings were a LOT easier to bend last night, it was immediately noticeable. She's barely put it down in the last 24 hours
  2. That's cool to hear! We were back and forth between the two for half an hour or so, but the longer she played this one, the more obvious it became. She also said almost instantly "dad, this one feels better" - so I'm really glad I didn't just buy her one without her input. The harmonics from it are incredible and have made an instant change (in a good way) to how her playing sounds. The difference is night and day. She's only recently started finger picking and its highly pleasurable to hear now. As you know, I don't play, but the notes kind of hold in the air while she ploughs on with melody (if that makes sense). We saw Tommy live a month or two back in Newcastle, I'm starting to understand how a single player can produce such a broad range of music with one instrument at any one particular point in time (obviously at an elementary level, but its fascinating to watch and listen to).
  3. So after much debate, we went in today to get a JR Signature... But we ended up with a Tommy model instead. She's elated. It's a beautiful instrument. Musos Corner has been great.....very patient with here trying to decide. Next stop some solo gigs. It's nice, she's working on different arrangements with the acoustic. I feel it's good learning and creativity, different skills
  4. Excellent, thank you. That gives me plenty to consider and mull over. I'll see what's kicking around second hand as well as new. Much appreciate the detailed reply. Thanks again
  5. G'day fellas, me again. We're now in the market for a steel string acoustic with a pickup and cutaway. I wanted to get it as a surprise gift, but that might not be such a good idea given where my daughter is at right now. A few options immediately come to mind - a Taylor 12e (similar to her Academy 12n), an Alvarez AEG80CE, or a Maton performer. What do you learned fellas reckon? anything else we should be snooping around for/considering? Its for live gigs, with a band.
  6. Yep! I was looking for something sexy. I know it makes no difference, just wanted things to look pretty
  7. In 2016 we moved onto a farm, sold the Golf for 2 x 3.2L for Rangers. My wife's died around 200,000kms, mine has had half the trans replaced, had a trans cooler upgrade, upgraded Torque converter and has 210,000 on it and seems to be working ok. We got the Mrs a 2008 200 series and its a MILLION times better than a Ranger. Like chalk and cheese - better everything. I'd buy one in a heartbeat for me. Even if you've got to drop $25k on new injectors, turbos etc, I'd still do it over a brand new ute - buy a 2015 200 series with 150-200kms on it, for $45-50k, spend $25k on a mid life service. More power, more comfortable, better AC, more reliable, doesn't overheat. I've got a shmick steel tray on my Ranger with all the trimmings, but I'd swap that for a 200 and a little trailer any day. The Ranger Groups I'm in on Facebook are like a hospital ward - daily posts on how do I fix this, that, or the other (major stuff too, engines and trans, all models, including the new ones). Nothing like that in the 200 series groups, save the injectors and turbos. PS Totally left of centre, if I REALLY needed a tray, I'd by a 4x4 Isuzu truck....rock solid reliable, smaller turning circle than a ute, 4.5t towing and HEAPs of payload. PPS Ute tubs are totally useless, trays all the way - get an aluminum jack off canopy for stuff/lockup Lastly, we have a vertical rack for the bikes, its the business. Ute trays are not cut out for transporting them, in my opinion
  8. That's mostly what she's doing. There's a family who's kids have a 4 piece band and our daughter has started playing a little with them as they didn't really have lead guitar and they needed more vocals, which, to my surprise miss nearly 13 isn't half bad - we've been to some gigs where other kids her age are singing and its like nails down a chalk board, really horrible stuff and the parents are there, proud as punch......our daughter keeps wanting confirmation she's doing ok, I keep telling her "honey, if you were bad, I'd not want to hear it, so you're doing ok"......What we need is something she can use at home or for solo gigs. I don't mind spending some coin on it, because we'll use the system for parties and other things - right now I roll out some QSC install speakers and whatever amps etc I'm not playing with for this purpose. It'd be nice to have some good sounding/looking/well organised gear that's easy to set up. Anyway, I think we'll go the Yamaha mixer (its cheaper) and I'll continue to mull over the speakers. Thanks fellas, this has been a very useful discussion.
  9. Most, yes @surprisetech I was toying with having a pair of 12" 2 ways made for her - use when soloing, use as monitors if with a group. The person (making them) was pushing an active powered arrangement. I'm more inclined to go with a passive or active/external amp arrangement with an external DSP. Get a baby rack on wheels, keep the mixer on the top or in a drawer. Keeps the weight of the speakers down a bit (though surprisingly not much). But then it could take too long going down that path (I've a rather large hifi order with the same person that's 2.5 years in.....my wife is ready to kill me over that)
  10. Sweet, thanks fellas. @Tweaky that's a really interesting vid, thanks. Lots of good content from him. It helps me to understand what's going on. I'm trying to stay out of it so she learns by herself, but its good to be able to help when she gets stuck - this happened on the weekend with her Boss amp - once we got the software running, it was an amazing change @surprisetech thanks heaps. I found a good vid comparing the Mackie to the Yamaha. I'll see how we go. When you say PreSonus, do you mean PreSonus PA speakers?
  11. Hey guys, me again! Things are progressing with my daughter's playing. She had her first little pub gig in December! I need to get her a PA, which I'm fairly across the options. One things I'm not across is a mixer. Anyone here have any recommendations on something decent but not stupid expensive? I was thinking a Yamaha MG12XCV. I like the idea of one with faders and foot switch controls. If she's performing, it'd be way easier to slide a fader or use an effect with a foot pedal as opposed to stuffing around with knobs or a touch screen. Any suggestions or thoughts? 12 inputs is way over the top, but as I say, I like the idea of faders/slides. She'll need a mic too.... I'm going to try and plug it into our hifi whilst I figure out something for the speakers/PA....not sure if I'll be able to get that to work. I thought it'd be good to have a mixer that could send audio into our media PC, then out of that into the AVP.....but latency is probably going to be an issue
  12. G'day gang, Does anyone know where to source decent quality, 240v, 10amp plugs from? something nicer than the standard $5 jobby from Bunnings?
  13. @Tweaky sweet! Thanks So much. Its Windows 11, only about 12 months old, so plenty powerful enough. Cheers!
  14. Thanks heaps for looking into it, much appreciated. Ah, I see, I didn't understand the need for the source material. Hmm, ok. What if we used the HTPC and TV? I believe it works on PC. If I can get her the functionality, it'll be the best of both worlds.
  15. I agonised over that a bit.....we dont like wireless devices here, so it kind of cancelled itself out unfortunately.......I messaged Positive Grid but they didn't really answer me on this, does the RIFF with Bias FX 2 have the same functionality as the Spark Amp or are they two different beasts? Its mostly the learning aspect I'm interested in. The recording and effects stuff isn't much of a concern at this stage
