Can anyone help? My EHP-606 has an internal 500GB 3.5 inch HDD with video files inside. Previously I was able to copy a video file from the internal HDD to an external 2.5" HDD (format FAT32) via USB. But after I did a quick format of the 2.5" HDD to the NTFS format using Vista, my EHP-606 can read files from the 2.5" HDD but cannot copy from the internal HDD to the external 2.5" HDD. Whenever I select a video file from the internal HDD and get into the 2.5" HDD and press "File mode", the option to "copy file" or "move file" is not available. It only shows "select file", "delete file" or "clear list". However when I go back to the internal HDD environment and choose to copy the file into any folder of the internal HDD, all options under the "file mode" will appear. What should I do to enable "Copy and move file" under the file mode option in the external HDD environment?

I had the same problem with an avi movie and an srt file, ie no subtitles appear when playing the movie in the 606 even though both file names are the same, (but the subtitles are ok on the laptop). I then realised that when I opened this srt file and looked at the subtitles, the format is very different from the subtitles found in other srt files. Hence I can only conclude that the way the subtitles are formatted in the srt file will determine whether the 606 displays them or not.

Just wanted to share this with those thinking of connecting an external DVD drive to the 606. I connected my Xbox 360 HD-DVD Drive to the 606 via USB to test a few things: 1) Can the HD-DVD drive play HD-DVDs through the 606? Nope. I can see a few files under when I choose the Video icon, but clicking on those files just brings me to a black screen. 2) Can the HD-DVD drive play commercial movie DVDs (Retail movie DVDs with region coding) through the 606? No. The HD-DVD drive will load the disc but after a few seconds, the words "BAD REGION CODING" will appear and then nothing else happens. However, if it is a pirated DVD (ie those from JB) without the CSS encryption, it will play. Still, my original DVD copy of ABBA - Definitive Collection (Region "0") can also play. So I think it will play any DVDs as long as it is not CSS-encrypted. Wonder if there's a hack for this. 3) Can the HD-DVD drive load data-DVDs? Yes. I have many Data DVDs in which I stored AVI files. So I just copied the files from my Data DVDs over to the 606. Transfer was fast - about 15 mins to transfer over 4 GBs of AVIs to the 606. This is less than half of the 40mins it takes to transfer 4GB worth of data via FTP or network sharing.

Sunblock, would you know how to increase the transfer speed of files from a laptop to the 606? See below for my transfer speed. My current setup is: laptop is wirelessly connected to the router. The 606 is connected via Lan cable to the router. 1) By ftp 2.5MB/sec max 2) By using a compatible driver in Windows: Ext2IFS (for vista) or Ext2FSD (XP) which I call it a wild method. This is because you got to mount the right hdd size (should be the largest of the third detected for the nwt hdd) other Windows will not detect it under "My Computer". Also you got to "Safely Remove" the drive which will not shown with the Drive Type (eg: Drive X ) Tried this using the direct USB Slave connection to my laptop. Vista keeps saying I need permission to write to the drive even though I'm the default administrator so I gave up. Anyway I did not like the idea of moving the 606 too much. 3) Using a "Mapped Drive" which in my opinion is faster and cleaner but there are several tweaks need to do in terms of using static ip addr (not dhcp due to different ip address after re-booting), network centre sharing changes, GAC changes, etc. This is currently my method but it is not without problems for 3 reasons: a) I am not always able to connect cleanly. Must try several times before a successful connection can be made between my laptop and the 606. Even the password entry box does not always appear and I sometimes have to close/open the Explorer window a few times before I can connect the 2 devices. b) It takes at least 5 minutes before my laptop detects the 606. c) The transfer rate is the same as FTP, which is 2.5MB/sec. Any idea how to increase this speed? Another method is to use the remote controller to move/copy files from an external USB storage device to the internal hdd of the A-110 via the NMT usb port. This is the fastest method (abt 20MB/sec)because I can copy a 1GB movie file from the laptop to my 2.5" ext HDD in about 1 minute. I then connect the HDD to my 606 via USB and then can transfer the same file under 1-2 minutes but it is a hassle to do. If I transfer the same file via FTP or Mapped Drive, it will take 7-8 minutes but is much more convenient. So it's a case of convenience vs speed.

Hi Sunblock, Nice to see you at your home on Tuesday. I wished I could stay and chat but the cab was waiting. Your home was not easy to find ;) Anyway, I must say I'm impressed with your product knowledge. Maybe you can help me with some of the problems I faced with the EHP-606. I have updated to the latest firmware, installed a 500GB Seagate HDD and all other apps found on the Elektron website. Problem 1 Whenever I connect a 2.5" 250GB WD HDD via the upper USB slot to play a video file, the 606 does not detect the HDD, although I can hear the HDD spinning. But the HDD can be detected if I use the lower USB slot. Why? If I use a normal 1GB thumbdrive, both upper and lower slots can be used. Problem 2 I tried transferring my video files from my laptop to the 606 using the USB slave port but my laptop (with Vista OS) did not show the icon of an external HDD being connected. The funny thing is I could hear the Vista sound of a HDD being connected, but no icon. Hence I can't transfer any video files to the 606 internal HDD. Problem 2 I tried ftp-ing the video files (using FlashFXP) to the 606, but could not connect despite many tries. Using userid: 1234 and password: nmt did not work. In conclusion, I like the 606 but all these problems have made it less enjoyable. Can anyone help?

Thread closed. Item has been bought.

Used or brand new does not matter: What matters are: 1) Must be in mint condition 2) Must be the 3-disc version with digital copy 3) Must be able to deal at CCK MRT (weekday evenings) or Woodlands MRT (weekday evenings and weekends).

Toshiba HD DVD player thread- share your info please

Thanks petetherock, excellent share. The hack worked on my A30 (US version, originally R1 and NTSC only). Tried the following discs after installing the firmware: R1 DVD (NTSC, non-RCE): ok R2 DVD (NTSC): ok R3 DVD (NTSC): ok Region-free (PAL): ok But here are other observations: R1 DVD (NTSC with RCE): will not work unless the RCE hack is applied (I did not expect this since my A30 could play all R1 discs, including RCE ones, before the hack) PAL DVDs: all of them showed black bars around the main picture (not sure if this is a hardware limitation or if it's because the PAL discs are not anamorphic widescreen). Now very happy and proud of the A30. ;D -

As at 7.30am today, there is still no HD5 transmission on Starhub's Channel 300 on my HD STB. Only a message that says to call 1633 to subscribe. I don't think there is a need to pay to watch this channel; only that Starhub failed to meet its promised time.
