I have only just gotten around to installing a decent tuner card into my htpc and i'm quite confused at what i'm noticing with the foxtel stb. The 2nd output connection seems to be only working in composite - when i plug in scart-component plugs it doesn't work - is this right or am i on something ?? That is immensely surprising and i'm now quite annoyed that i cannot get component out from foxtel into my htpc. The other output is working via component - but i plug that into my receiver -> TV so that i can use it independently. From what i can see there is no other type of component connections that i can use to split the signal, so that 1 of them can be fed into the htpc . How does everyone solve this ??? (this is kinda a general question but relates to my wanting to connect to htpc so i hope this is ok place for this thread)

Actually notice the Leadtek DVR3200H is only $96, anyone got a view on this card ?

I'm looking to add a separate dedicated analog only card to my htpc so that I can do once a week recording of foxtel (footy). Not looking to integrate with vista media centre at all, just want to be able to produce the best quality from this pathetic source. Can anyone recommend the best analog only card with hardware encoder I assume to create the best quality caps. Thanks

Foxtel Owners & Discussion Thread
bigwatts replied to BribieG's topic in TV - Free to Air & Streaming
Gee - i hope we can get more and more ads with all this extra money we'll have to pay I mean - i thought we already had foxtel "DIGITAL" ... Sorry but i can see this as being another ploy to get more money out of existing customers who love their sport (for example), and barely build on a pretty pathetic tv experience as it stands . If i pay for foxtel, in the year 2008, why the hell do i have to distinguish if i want "the good stuff" and pay extra ... especially as i said, since day 1 of foxtel "digital", we have not been receiving anything nearly "digital" in quality . -
Gaming And The High Def Drives
bigwatts replied to bigwatts's topic in Movies - Box Office, Blu-ray Releases etc.
I'm not sure how you figure this is a trolling attempt You're right - i didnt search, but i figured since the landscape here is continuously changing that a new thread would not hurt so much ... My comment about blu ray living longer, is only because whenever and wherever i go shopping, i have not once seen a HD DVD movie title, whereas i seem to see bluray titles often .. i do apologise -
Gaming And The High Def Drives
bigwatts posted a topic in Movies - Box Office, Blu-ray Releases etc.
Just wondering how many have either the xbox 360 or the ps3 with high def drives and in particular, would either one sway you because of the high def drive, or does the decision always come down to the better gamer ? As far as i'm concerned in terms of gaming they're about even, price sways me towards the 360, but theres something about blu ray that tells me it will live longer and harder in the future - and therefore possibly swaying me again in the other direction. Any thoughts appreciated .. also for those who have either - how good are they in terms of online gaming ? -

I'm surprised I can't find too much reviews on the soniq brand - I need a small 19/22" for a spare room and would not like to pay more than $600 for something not used that much - but at the same time I dont want to have to deal with returns/repairs if something goes wrong - i'd rather not get one ! I've seen a 19" soniq with built in tuner (Dont care if its HD/SD) for $600 from memory ... Just unsure whether I should even bother .. ? Cheers

Bought a Teac 160T (from memory), 160Gb HD, dual SD tuners for the old man and it seems it is turning itself off after a while - almost as though its overheating .. but after a while its coming back on and working again for a period of time. Just wanting to ask the obviously stupid question - this is not normal is it ? These things should be able to stay on all the time and not overheat ? Thx

26" Range Recommendations ?
bigwatts replied to bigwatts's topic in Televisions, Projectors & Screens
Thanks for the replies ... I do need the inbuilt tuner MrTypeR - I think 32 is overkill for the bedroom ... plus i'm interested in getting two of these so thats why I dont want to go too high .. The Acer sounds interesting - never knew if they'd be any good at t.v screens ... i know their monitors are good. -
Just wanting to get recommendations on LCD screens around the 26" size, hoping for something around the $1K mark - basic x768 res is fine. I've only really seen the Samsung around the $1400 from memory - cant justify it on a screen that small ... Any recommendations much appreciated.

Budget Dvd Hdd Recorders - Hicon, Conia And Others
bigwatts replied to TNTTony's topic in Media Servers & Source Units
Good thread - but i was also wanting to know if there are any good "budget" models that do a guide ? -
Is there seriously no contact detail for stores ?? I've searched everywhere and they reckon they dont give out numbers ?? Is this promo on now ?
-
gotta get another source .... in the interim i'll speak to my retailer and try pressure them for a resolution ... cheers
-
Another good article - but the way i read it, the person in the thread said it was his samsung dvd player in the end that was at fault ... which i dont really understand, because he also said that going from dvd player direct to t.v had NO issues ... Check the very last post ... so i dunno wtf - i'm only running the htpc in at the moment ... surely wouldnt be the cable as also suggested ...
-
thx - i'll make my way thru the 41 pages ...
-
yep gutty - did search when i first noticed it and saw a few threads speaking about the flicker ... i guess the question is will they resolve it .... then again i wonder if i might have an out due to incorrect advertising - although i guess hdmi switching does not infer 1080p ?? bugger
-
component into the receiver was fine ... hdmi straight into tv is fine ... gotta be hdmi ? Btw the hdmi version on htpc is 1.2
-
I bought this receiver before the screen or anything else, just cos i'm a sound guy more than anything ... So now i've eventually gone and bought a 1080p LCD and built myself a HTPC, when i run the htpc into the receiver, i get a flicker in the picture - too much to handle and cannot use it. So i have the htpc now straight into the TV, which is really a bummer because as far as i'm concerned, thats why i bought this type of receiver. So when i had a closer look, i note it is only hdmi 1.1 ... Does anyone know if theres a service upgrade for this considering they advertise it as hdmi switching, yet the hdmi on it is so primitive ?? Thx
