  1. Thanks man... I was worried about the dead pixel, but you dont even notice it....even when your looking for it.....
  2. pretty sure that screen is 1280 x 1080 ..... the X is the 1920x1080i
  3. Well... it arrived last night..... I didnt get much chance to play with it, but i plugged the arial in, and the media center to the VGA input and got it all working. I watched some of the transformers movie on DVD.... all i can say is... holy crap.... it is awesome. Hopefully ill get a internal HD DVD drive for my mac mini (im using as a media center) so i can get the full 1080p!!
  4. Thanks Crazycrow.....that makes me feel better Cant wait til it shows up this arvo
  5. Ok... i know you guys will be dissapointed, but i went with the Sony...... I had not intention of this, but I went to DFO on the weekend, and they have a Sony shop there...which sell factory seconds and items with damaged cartons etc... I got a 46" W series..... It had a dud pixel... which after much inspection, I decided that it was only visible it i was close up, and the screen was black... (the pixel remains blue). Anyway, long story short, I ended up getting It, and its being delivered tomorrow.... Ended up costing $2500 + 5yrs warranty for $279. I think thats a good price.... If I notice a second pixel die, then i can get it repaired/preplaced.
  6. I'd happily pay $2680 with the extra warranty..... where did you get yours from again?
  7. We have WOW and Good Guys here that should do it, but they dont sell Hitachi.....Quite a few other places dont sell them either. the $2500 price from JB does not include any extended warranty.... they want an additional $400 for that which turns a good price into a fairly average one.
  8. ok.... went to HN last night.... Not so good... i showed rons receipt and a quote for $2500 I got from JB..... Basically he said that they could get no where near that......and to get it from JB. back to the drawing boards......
  9. Just a quick question, does this plasma have a VGA input? I will be hooking it up to a mac mini media centre, so VGA is an option.... otherwise ill have to get a DVI to HDMI cable.
  10. Coolio... will do.... i might try a different HN though... Will have to wait til thursday night shopping..... thanks for all the advise guys....
  11. Dropped into JB on the way home.... didnt mention Rons price as they didnt have any in stock, and its a 3 week wait til they come in.....but they gave me $2500 straight up..... if only they had them in stock..... that was without extra warranty though.... its like $150 for LCD and $400 for plasma.....not sure why.... They had the lower spec 50" (cant remember the model number).... i didnt think it played normal TV very well.
  12. i already got the receipt from ron :-)ill try and get to JB with it this afternoon. Whats Rick Hart?
  13. ok...just went to harvey norman... they didnt have the sony 40" W series, only the XBR......(the salesman said that the sony are LCD...i didnt know that...i assumed they were plasma.) anyway... got talking about the hitachi...they had the red bull air race hitachi promo dvd playing.... i couldnt flaw the picture.... i mentioned the price that ron got for it, and he went away to see what he could do.... he came back and said he could drop it by $50..... can you believe it.... jerk hehe... so that made it $2949......
  14. i guess what im asking, is the tv too big for that distance/viewing area?
  15. so 2.5m is not too close?
  16. thanks for the reply deeps.... how far is your viewing distance? what did you need to do to calibrate it?
  17. fair enough... i thought the picture quality of the hitachi was awesome for tv..... i guess the question is, do i need 50" or 40" for my space....? and will i benefit from the p over the i?
  18. I measured the viewing distance, and from the front of the telly to the middle sitting position is about 2.3m. the lounge room (although open plan) is quite small.... roughle 3-3.5 x 3-3.5 m or something off the top of my head.... I have not seen the 2 in the same room.... also, i have only seen the sony playing a blu ray, and the hitachi playing HD TV. so its a hard comparison.... what made you decide deeps?
  19. Hi guys.... Im after an opinion.... Ive seen both the Hitachi 50" (1920x1080i) and Sony W series 40" (1920x1080p)..... Is it worth sacrificing the screen area for the 'p' over the 'i'? The sony comes with the PS3, so i can watch bluray etc..., but i like the fact i can rip DVDs to my NAS DVD library and watch from there. Anyway, which would you choose? Edit: I forgot to say they are both around the $2700-3000 region rrp
  20. ok...it wont let me.... just use my hotmail account then..... simont80@hotmail.com thanks again Simon
  21. haha...thanks ron.... ill pm it to you.....
  22. Hi Ron.... I want to try my luck at harvey norman with this telly.... can you send me your receipt too please..... hopefully if i can get a good price for it, ill order at the end of the week. thanks simon
  23. Hi Guys, I recently moved, and since then, the DVD player has not been working properly. Most of the time now it does not recognise a DVD at all.... If it does it freezes and skips etc..... I wasnt rough while moving it....... Just wondering if it would be something simple like dust on the lense or if it would be something more serious like the laser out of alignment or something. The rest of it seems to be working fine (ie the record to HDD etc)..... Thanks Simon
