  1. I would say the noise level is virtually identical meaning a mild hum noticeable only when not watching anything. Certainly many times quieter than my toppy 5000 mp drive and with no noticeable clicking (unlike the toppy).
  2. Bought the Tivo Expander Drive Today. Have only mac computers and not that savvy with all things computerised. Here was my experience. Opened box up followed instructions of attaching esata cable to external drive and then tivo. Problem number one, with gentle pressure the female part in the tivo disappears inside the box. What the. The whole point of this was to avoid opening up the Tivo to install another HD. So get out the Torx 10, open it up and find that the screws to attach the internal cable to the back of the unit are not connected....ie never attached from factory. Nice QC Tivo factory. Proceeded to attach and tighten, replace cover on Tivo and do it back up. Restart as per instructions, connect esata cable cable and then power on hard drive first then Tivo 15 seconds later. Welcome...powering up screen hangs for 30mins.......fark. Turn off restart tivo without expander drive....all normal Try again, reconnect drive and power up again expander drive first and then the tivo.....this time welcome screen for a few mins (less than5) and then the moments away screen then tivo has found external storage...complete the prompts and it reboots tivo. Restarted again and this time system info says external drive attached. Recording capacity has gone from 30HD and 60SD to 231HD and 470SD. Woohoo! All in all fairly painless except for the plug disappearing inside tivo. Wife is happy she doesn't have to delete things so quickly. Hopefully my plug disappearing caper was a one off in my unit and doesn't affect other people. Ray.
  3. Dad? A guy's selling a pair of jousting sticks. Jousting sticks? What's he want for 'em? Make us an offer. Give him a call? FATHER: Yeah. SON: Dad? 450. FATHER: For jousting sticks? Tell him he's dreamin'! Best of luck
  4. Mine happened straight after I bought my Topfield so I thought it must be this. Disconnecting it did not solve the problem so I scratched my head for a while then started disconnecting other things because I read somewhere certain things hooked to the amp could cause a ground loop hum. In the end it turned out to be my old HD STB which when i bought the Toppy I disconnected its optical input from my Yamaha RXV520 amp and gave that to the Toppy as I had run out (it only has three optical inuts). I then connected the HD STB by RCA leads. Bingo I created a ground loop hum. I solved the prob by removing the RCA from the HD STB and rehooking that by optical and hooking up the PS2 by RCA leads instead. All in all a simple fix but damn it was frustrating to locate it. Hope this helps you. Ray
  5. I have had a thunderbox for about 3 years, with orpheus aurora 3 fronts, centaurus 0.5 centre and rear surrounds. Thunderbox is a good reliable unit. Bass can be a little boomy at times, but as i use it HT rather than music this is not a major issue for me. I have in general been pleased with it. I think I paid just under a $1000 for it brand new from Len Wallis 3 years ago, so 500 seems good to me
  6. Retravision Castle Towers Castle Hill. Bought a silver masterpiece 160GB for $765. This was sticker price. He wouldn't go lower than this, because he claimed this was cost price. Anyway, got to pay with AMEX so paid sticker and left. So far have added PBK. Loving it. Ray
  7. Had a similar problem 1 year ago with an LG 50PX10. The red pixels would be there esp. noticeable in dark scenes for the first few minutes after the set was turned on. Then once the set warmed up they disappeared. LG couldn't fix it so they gave me a refund and now have a Pioneer. This is performing flawlessly.
  8. I can only comment on my experiences. I had an LG 50" which exhibited poor blacks, poor motion and heaps of solarisation (painted faces....uugh!). It then started to have sparkling pixels and I returned it, got a full refund and bought a Pioneer 505HD. As has been said previously their after sales service was first class. Fully set up the unit and hooked up all my components. 5 year waranty I think is a big plus out of the box. PQ I feel is superb and I have to say that I personally do not see a black level problem.....and this coming from an 80cm Sony Wega CRT which is a great set. All in all the Pioneer is as good as my old LG was bad. I have not watched the 50" Fuji for extended period but I have watched a movie on the 42" and this image was also excellent. Did I think it was better at any aspect...no. (mind you this was an 18 month old Fuji so I don't know if this was an older model). I have also seen many hours on my brothers 42 " Philips and the PQ of this is poor in comparison. Ultimately I think that if you buy a premium product like the Fuji, Pio etc. the differences are likely to be percentages. Like buying anything go out and test the alternatives and see what YOU prefer. Some things that bothers other ppl may not bother you and vice versa. Good luck with your choice. Ray
  9. Cme Jimmy, Great news. You will not be disappointed with the Pioneer. Once again I am glad that you also got your money back from LG. I sometimes wonder if there is a warehouse somewhere with hundreds of sparkling LG plasmas inside.
  10. I agree it was good of them and I was pleased with the outcome. I think it was because they could not replace the panel as they no longer manufactured it so I guess I was just saying no to a panel I had not purchased as a replacement (the updated LG). One thing I found irritating was that each time I rang Customer service I spoke to someone different....but I just documented all my calls and fortunately got what I wanted. In the end, they just refunded the retailer, and then he said spend it on what u like. No way I was buying LG again because it had terrible solarisation/false contours. I found that just horrible. I know everyone talks about the Fuji but I think the Pioneer 505HD is great.
  11. I had this EXACT problem with my LG RT 50PZ60. Basically developed after about 8 months. Only occured when the screen was cold....and iot disappeared after 10 minutes. Exactly the same red green sparkles in dark scenes. If the screen was switched off then on within say an hour few sparkles were visible. If the screen was off for a few hours the problem was at its worst. Anyway I rang LG customer support who advised me my nearest service centre....Gladesville Electronic Services. They said they had seen this before and it just needed adjustment. Anyway 2 weeks later they said it could not be adjusted anymore, so they would ask LG for a new panel. LG no longer made the panel so offered me the new 50 inch LG. Anyway, I asked for my money back they gave me a store credit and I am now the proud and happy owner of a Pioneer 505. No more solarisation, no more sparkles. I spoke to a girl called Teneille at LG customer service. I have to say LG was pretty good. I didn't rant about it, but merely said no I didn't want the new LG, could I have my money back and they said sure no probs. My friend ordered the same LG at the same time. He returned his after 3 months with a different problem, and also got his money back and now has the pioneer also. Good luck with your dealings.
