  1. I agree. The point I was making, is that after spending $3k-$5k and I wasnt totally happy, then $200 to $300 is well spent if for nothing else but reassurance that I didnt waste my original investment.
  2. wow, nice offering. very interested now to see if it helps MarkH
  3. In that case it sounds as though your more in need of reassurance which I agreee is best coming from a professional installer. I would go back to the dealer that sold you the receiver and ask if they can provide some on-site asistance. If not themselves, they usually have a few contacts they can recommend at reasonable rates. Good luck.
  4. +1 Buy Now "Should I spend my $3k now or will I get better specs for the same $3k in 6 months time?" The answer is ALWAYS that you will get better bang for buck in the future... so on that basis you will NEVER buy!? Grab a 1080p now .... and give it to the Mrs for Xmas!
  5. Is there any reason why you didnt use the provided YPAO mic and run the auto-calbration that is built into the 2700 ? quoting from the Yammy web-site... "YPAO system enables convenient, accurate and trouble-free calibration of your listening environment. In one simple process, the included calibration microphone monitors a variety of test signals produced by the receiver, and adjusts a number of parameters (such as frequency response, speaker delay and channel level) to optimise the audio performance of your home theatre system." Run this and see how it sounds and how it evaluates your speakers in terms of size and distance. At the very least, it is a good starting point. Cheers
  6. ditto I have had my majestic for over 2 years now and never had a days worry. Perhaps of more interest to this thread, is that I have moved house 3 times over the last 2 years. Each time it was a very simple process to pack up and re-install at the new premises, and never a wrinkle in sight. My only dilema is when to bite the bullet and upgrade to scope. Cheers T
  7. Hi Guys, Just moved house and unfortunately this set up no longer fits. Sony VPL-HS60 projector approx 18 months old with spare lamp (has run total of approx 3000 hours). PJ specs are here Screen is the Oz Theatre Screens Majestic (great screen) with velvet frame. 92" diag screen details here Prefer someone from Perth area so I can show all in good order. Plus demo should impress No idea as to fair price so all reasonable offers considered. Please PM if interested. Cheers T
  8. To answer your original question. Compare the Studio 40's (if you can find a dealer that stocks) with the Monitor 11's. Same manufacturer & same price point - and I would be very surprised if you didnt pick the Studios, IMO they are in a different league altogether
  9. Anyone know if you can get Definitive's new ProCinema 1000 in Aus? Seem to be getting very postive reviews. Approx $1,500 for a 5.1 system here
  10. ah ok, i thought you were playing dvds double check your monitor settings are at 50hz Also, and yes stupid question i admit, but u are pushing the HDMI button on the remote and not the PC button by mistake?
  11. from Nvidia's own faq: "HDCP Capable: Designed to meet the output protection management (HDCP) and security specifications of the Blu-ray Disc and HD DVD formats, allowing the playback of encrypted movie content on PCs when connected to HDCP-compliant displays: To enjoy the ultimate HD DVD or Blu-ray experience on a PC, you’ll need: * PCI Express graphics card with secure HDCP CryptoROM and GeForce 7 Series HDCP-capable GPU with 256MB of graphics memory or GeForce 8 Series HDCP-capable GPU with 128MB of graphics memory * NVIDIA ForceWare graphics drivers that feature PureVideo HD technology * An optical disc drive that supports Blu-ray and/or HD DVD movie playback * Blu-ray or HD DVD movie player software with PureVideo HD hardware acceleration of H.264, VC-1, and MPEG-2 high-definition content * A dual-core CPU is recommended with the GeForce 7 Series * 1GB of system memory is recommended under Windows XP; 2GB is recommended under Windows Vista. " The fact that Nvidia now make specific mention that their new cards have this support, suggests two things, 1) yes you will need it, and 2) if they dont list it for your product, chances are it doesnt have it. Thats not to say that you cant sometimes run SD DVD across HDMI with non-HDCP equipment, but if any of the components require HDCP (and most of the new stuff now does), then every piece in the chain needs to support it. Cheers
  12. Are you sure your video card is HDCP compliant?
  13. My update seemed to take ages 20 mins to get 40% the way through. So I swapped to a hard wired connection (just for the update) by running a 10m cable between rooms. Updated completed in less than 5 mins. Suggests that the USB wireless network card (a Netgear WG111v2) that although it works, is still much slower and less reliable than a bit of good ol blue cable. Unfortunately for me a wired connection is impractical for a perm solution, so keen to try and get the USB working properly. Similar result for media sharing, not good enough to stream video - totally unwatchable using WMP So far I've been unable to make a settings adjustment that improves the performance of the wireless. In fact unable to find a place anywhere that provided diagnostics of any kind. Just the basic internet connection test which is a Yes or No only reponse and because the wireless works, it offers no further analysis. I am curious to learn if the others here that also experienced slow updates were also using wireless? Has anyone found a way to benchmark LAN/WAN speeds? Cheers
  14. I have read that certain games can freeze when the PS3 has a USB device installed (ie a wireless network card). If your using one, I would try again without it. Also might be an idea to hire another game from the local video store, just to test. If it works fine at least it will give you some peace of mind that it isnt the PS3. CHeers
  15. Thanks for the feedback guys. I am off to the city tomorrow to do some watching. Got the Sony and JVC in my sights. Couldnt find a place that had the Epson on demo.. so still searching on that one. Forcing myself to leave wallet at home... that will be the REAL test.
