A truly extraordinary 401.

Recently serviced by Mark (formerly) from Murrumbateman).
 

He has serviced many of these and he stated very clearly that this is the best Garrard motor he has ever seen. He uses an Garrard 301 himself. And he has seen a lot of them. A friend of his was thinking  about putting this motor in his 301. 

So not only is it an outstanding 401, but it’s better than a 301

You will no longer see a 301 for under $2000, so $2000 seems a very fair price.
 

In Japan these  go for $3000 ( check on fleabay) .There is a huge knowledge base for these turntables and no real problem with parts. I’m sure it’s a much better buy ( no offence to other sellers) than other vintage machines.

Many an audiophile has cast aside a pimped Linn Sondek after hearing these. And the biggest upgrade is pretty straightforward- a beefier plinth. Find one online or make one, it’s not rocket science. And because it’s not suspended there are no hours needed bouncing the suspension 

it comes in a basic plinth from Moldavia.
