Official Monitor Audio specifications:

The incredible Silver 500 floorstander from Monitor Audio features a pair of powerful, long-throw 8-inch C-CAM RST bass drivers in each cabinet, delivering punchy bass right down to an earth-shaking 30 Hz alongside exquisite treble and captivating mid-range.

With this masterpiece, we guarantee you won’t need an extra sub to deliver the most demanding music tracks to the full.

While assured of incredible scale and breath-taking dynamics from Monitor Audio’s bespoke bass drivers, you are guaranteed clean mid-range, without a hint of distortion, and a delicate, detailed treble thanks to perfect drive unit matching. All bass and mid-range drivers feature the Silver Series’ signature RST Cone profile.

High overall sensitivity and easy loading make the new Silver 500 easy to drive and capable of delivering amazing results in your audio system. In fact, a modestly powered high-quality amplifier is all you need to fill a large room with volume levels that approach live music. And, with just 12 inches (30 cm) needed between the speaker and wall, to allow the system to breathe and perform optimally, the Silver 500 is perfect where space is tight.

Hi There,

Can anyone please help me with the sound signature of silver series, is it warm, netural or slightly above neutral.

Does it need a powerful amplifier to get the best of these speakers?

Thank you

Hi

I have run Silver 8s with a Primare I32 and I35. I now run Silver 300 7i. My experience is they are very transparent with tight bass. the 300s have better bass extension than the 8s. In the right sized room the 500s would be better again. Id expect 150w would be quite enough as far as power but I wouldn't skimp on quality. The Silver 8s I have revealed the considerable difference from the I32 to the I35 and a few of the other upgrades I made to the front end. The speakers were last in line of all upgrades.

I owned a pair of these and had them for a long time.

I would not call them warm, but neither are they bright or edgy ( despite a bit of misinformed information bandied about ad nauseam)

Depending on amplifier, they are essentially neutral and agile and they (like many good speakers ) will scale very well  with improvements in amplification.

I obviously don't know what amplifier you have but a high quality amp will bring out the best from these and ensure room filling rhythmic sound.

I would describe them as neutral, accurate, revealing and detailed. The 500s have the best bass extension of any Monitor Audio speaker. I have been very happy driving them on both Marantz PM8005 and Rega Elex 70 watt amps.

I suspect one might experience this from sub standard or bright amplification. I find the MAs Ive had are very revealing. I see a lot of posts on the MA Facebook page where people buy the Gold MAs and then run comparably cheap amplification. Its the wrong way around..

100%

These speakers will show you exactly what quality of other components are in the system. I have owned and used MA speakers for several decades and sold some of the first pairs of the brand ever to come to Australia.

They are not reticent in informing you about the power and quality of what is upstream.

This is often misunderstood as having a bright or shiny sound but the old GIGO principle applies here.

I have MA Silver RX series speakers purchased new in 2011 (RX6 fronts, RX Centre and RXFX rears) in my home theatre system and they are neutral, balanced and very detailed, crisp in the high frequencies, but not bright or hard. Feed them with the right amp, in my case an Anthem MRX 1140, and they’ll reward in spades. They are also really well built and look as good as the day I bought them in the Black Oak wood veneer finish…they’re not going anywhere.
