Founded in Melbourne in 2001 as a humble home-based start-up, Stuart Ralston and his father, Harry, started designing loudspeakers and soon after, the SGR Audio company was formed.
Their local state-of-the-art factory designs and manufacturers everything in-house, and we really do mean everything.
From the dedicated electronics assembly areas to the fully enclosed spray booth and painting facilities, multiple CNC machines and a complete line of aluminium surfacing & finishing machines.
In 2017, Ralston developed an entirely new line of speakers, the Discovery Series.
Debuting to the world stage at the High End Show in Munich, Germany this year, the Discovery series was unveiled under the banner, ‘Affordable Elegance’.

The DS1 loudspeaker uses a paper cone 6.5” midwoofer and a 1” soft dome Tweeter, and unique to the Discovery range is an in-house computer designed waveguide with a sophisticated, software-optimised profile that is machined from 50mm thick billet aluminium.
Each baffle and waveguide takes 2 hours to machine by CNC.
Rather than using MDF like most speaker cabinets, SGR produces the cabinets from 19mm constrained layer damped timber which is much more inert, and offers less resonance and vibration due to its significantly higher energy dissipation.
The SGR Audio DS1 loudspeaker is a highly-capable speaker with output much larger than its physical size would suggest.
