Walking on Sunshine - Philips Moving Sound Range Returns

The new 80s-inspired Moving Sound portable audio range from Philips guarantees you'll be wired for sound.
Philips is celebrating its centenary by launching the eye-catching Moving Sound range of portable Bluetooth speakers and headphones. Depending on when you were born, this will either be filed under 'retro-fi' or 'newstalgia', but either way, it's a break from black boxes.

The reimagined Moving Sound range takes its inspiration from the more colourful aspects of the 1980s, such as neon-coloured clothes, legwarmers, headbands, power-dressing, and huge shoulder pads - ignoring the fact that many of us lived in houses decorated with woodchip wallpaper and dark wood furniture.

Available from the second quarter of 2026, the new portable series focuses on modern wireless offerings whilst reviving a couple of iconic model names. Although, as yet, no new portable radio, triangular cassette players or CD players have been mentioned. However, the celebratory four-strong Moving Sound range does feature The Tube and The Roller Bluetooth speakers, the M55 wireless earbuds and the MS1 on-ear headphones.

While we have some details, Philips seems to be keeping images to themselves with only teasers (apologies for the low-res), so we thought you might appreciate some original Moving Sound eye-candy, too.

Philips The Roller Boombox
The Roller is the most recognisable name and design of the four, brought bang up to date with 60W of power, two tweeters, two woofers, two passive radiators, and a Moving Sound Bass+ system. This 200x380×120mm [HxWxD] portable player offers Bluetooth 5.5, Auracast, and USB playback. Setup and control are via a built-in full-colour display, which also shows a moving cassette animation during playback for a full retro effect to accompany the player's light show.

The Roller promises a 24-hour battery life and an IP67 rating, allowing it to be used outdoors and withstand getting caught in the rain.
Philips The Tube Portable Party
The Tube is The Roller's bigger and more powerful sibling with 140W available, further augmented by side-firing passive radiators. Boasting 24 hours of battery stamina, The Tube can also be used as a power bank.
It has the same features as The Roller, which includes a light show controllable via the Philips Entertainment App. As well as a handle, The Tube also features a shoulder strap to help you move its 200x510x165mm [HxWxD] frame around.
Philips MS1 The Bingo Headphones
The Bingo, if you remember them, returns as the MS1 lightweight on-ear headphones sporting the iconic 80s style seen plugged into portable radios and cassette players; however, these are, of course, packing Bluetooth, and a claimed 26 hours battery life.
Each earcup houses a 40mm driver and a built-in AI mic for clearer voice calls. The thin headband is adjustable and designed to be "grab-and-go", and is available in two colours – the iconic Moving Sound yellow or a black finish – both feature pink-neon inserts for that whole 'Memphis Design' colour pop.
Philips MS55 The Buds
Simply not possible the first time around, the entirely new MS55 wireless earbuds feature hybrid ANC, Spatial Audio, six mics for noise cancelling and clearer voice calls, as well as 48 hours of battery life with ANC switched off. You also get multipoint connection, Auracast, and an IP54 rating.
The MS55's charging case features a display for controls, plus, of course, a cassette animation, making it feel more part of the squad.
All new Moving Sound products will be launched in the second quarter of 2026. As soon as we have more details and pricing we'll be sure to let you know.
