While positioned as second-generation models, the pairing reflects more than routine revision. The visual language has shifted. The amplification platform has evolved. The range now sits more clearly in premium territory.
For years, Unison products blended valves, solid-state circuitry and visible Italian craftsmanship into a recognisable identity. Timber accents and hybrid architecture were central to that appeal. The PRE v2 and DM v2 refine that formula.

The design is cleaner and more restrained. A 15 mm machined aluminium fascia, a wrapped 2 mm top cover and reduced timber detailing move the aesthetic toward contemporary precision. Midnight Black and Velvet Gold finishes replace overt nostalgia with something more architectural. Even the Unison logo now serves as the power switch — a subtle integration of brand and function.
The DM v2 becomes the flagship power amplifier within the Unico range.

It uses a dual-mono configuration with a dedicated 750 VA encapsulated toroidal transformer per channel. Output is rated at 220 watts into 8 ohms and 340 watts into 4 ohms in stereo, remaining stable down to 2 ohms. Bridged into mono, it delivers 650 watts into both 8 and 4 ohms.
Those figures place it firmly in high-current territory.

The topology retains a Class A valve input stage using a pair of ECC82 / 12AU7 Gold Lion valves, followed by a three-pair MOSFET output section. The significant change is the introduction of A.S.H.A., short for Analog Synchronised Hybrid Amplification, which underpins what Unison describes as a “Class A-AB” output stage.

In operation, a Class A “Leader” MOSFET controls the signal and powers the positive waveform, while a synchronised Class AB “Follower” device handles the negative half. The intention is to reduce crossover distortion while maintaining efficiency and current delivery. Unison states that distortion remains effectively inaudible up to maximum output, with bass control and body preserved at lower listening levels.

The PRE v2 complements the architecture shift in the DM v2 with a fully balanced, zero global feedback design built around two ECC83 / 12AX7 Gold Lion valves operating in Class A. Solid-state output stages follow, maintaining the brand’s hybrid philosophy while aiming for improved balance and lower noise.

Volume control is handled via a precision resistor-based integrated circuit designed for channel accuracy and repeatability.

Connectivity is broad without becoming excessive. Three RCA and three XLR line inputs are joined by a configurable MM/MC phono stage using passive RIAA equalisation, with selectable gain and loading accessible from the rear panel. Digital conversion duties are handled by a Sabre ES9018K2M DAC supporting PCM up to 384 kHz and native DSD up to 256 via USB, along with S/PDIF and Toslink inputs. Dual RCA outputs allow bi-amping, and a dedicated subwoofer output reflects contemporary system design.
Streaming modules and wireless features are not part of the brief. Instead, the PRE v2 is conceived as a dedicated control centre, prioritising signal integrity and system flexibility over integrated convenience.

With a combined system price of US$18,498, the PRE v2 and DM v2 move the Unico series further into premium territory. The pricing, revised aesthetic and new output-stage architecture suggest a brand refining its position rather than simply refreshing familiar models.
