TEAC Goes Blue with TN-400BT-X Limited Edition

TEAC has announced the TN-400BT-X/TB, a Turquoise Blue Limited Edition variant of its TN-400BT-X Bluetooth turntable platform.

While the core model first appeared in 2024, this new version introduces an intriguing glossy lacquer cabinet finish available for a limited time.
The TN-400BT-X/TB combines traditional three-speed analogue playback with integrated wireless transmission, allowing LP records to be streamed directly to compatible Bluetooth® headphones or Bluetooth speakers without requiring a separate amplifier.

Wireless functionality is handled via Bluetooth 5.2, with support for SBC, Qualcomm® aptX™ and aptX™ Adaptive codecs. TEAC says aptX Adaptive enables higher-quality audio transmission and reduced latency when paired with compatible devices. Once paired, the turntable can operate as a standalone wireless source component, streaming vinyl playback to Bluetooth-equipped speakers and headphones.
For all its wireless ambitions, the platform remains mechanically conventional. A high-inertia aluminium die-cast platter is driven by a DC motor via a flat rubber belt, supporting 33⅓, 45 and 78rpm playback. A low-resistance stainless steel spindle and brass bearing assembly are designed to maintain rotational stability and minimise friction.

An S-shaped, static-balanced aluminium tonearm features adjustable counterweight and anti-skating, and uses a universal headshell with gold-plated contacts. The deck ships pre-fitted with an Audio-Technica AT95E moving-magnet cartridge.
A built-in phono EQ stage based on the NJM8080 op-amp allows direct connection to powered speakers or amplifiers lacking a dedicated phono input. A rear-panel switchable line/phono output preserves flexibility for users who wish to introduce an external phono stage later.

The chassis is constructed from high-density MDF for rigidity and vibration control, supported by decoupled aluminium feet. The Limited Edition model distinguishes itself visually with its Turquoise Blue lacquer finish, alongside machined aluminium control knobs and gold-plated RCA terminals. As with the standard model, there is no USB output.
Bluetooth-equipped turntables continue to divide opinion among analogue traditionalists, but they are increasingly positioned as gateway products for listeners prioritising wireless convenience. Recent examples in the category include Sony’s PS-LX5BT and Audio-Technica’s AT-LP70XBT, while more premium efforts such as Technics’ SL-40CBT attempt to combine wireless functionality with stronger analogue credentials.

TEAC says the TN-400BT-X/TB will be released in limited numbers, with worldwide availability to be confirmed in the coming months. Existing TN-400BT variants currently retail for around US$629, though pricing for the Turquoise Blue edition has yet to be announced.
