Following the success of its Celata 88 flagship, Australian boutique brand SpectraFlora has revealed the Aphelia 8—a two-way loudspeaker that condenses its core technology into a more compact, design-conscious package.

Unveiled at the Australian Design Show, the Aphelia 8 showcases SpectraFlora’s evolving commitment to high-performance audio that remains deeply rooted in local materials and sustainable craftsmanship. Like its predecessor, the Aphelia 8 employs the company’s proprietary Dynamic Waveguide, redesigned specifically to suit the speaker’s narrower cabinet, and promises broad constant directivity for consistent tonal balance in real-world rooms.

SpectraFlora Managing Director, Steve Van Sluyter told StereoNET:

The Dynamic Waveguide, although it looks the same as the Celata 88, was completely redesigned for the narrower Aphelia 8 cabinet. It produces wide constant directivity, assuring accurate timbre from various listening positions and in reverberant rooms, along with the intimate, engaging dynamics of a horn.

At the heart of the Aphelia 8 is an 8-inch graphene-coated magnesium woofer, working within a sealed enclosure. This design choice, while unusual in a world dominated by vented two-way speakers, was a deliberate one aimed at delivering greater midbass clarity and control—free from the colourations often associated with reflex tuning.

The enclosure itself is crafted from locally sourced Australian timber, while internal damping comes courtesy of Victorian wool, continuing the brand’s uniquely local ethos. “This isn’t just about going green,” Van Sluyter has previously stated. “It’s about using materials that sound better and reflect where we come from.”

The Aphelia 8 retains the emotive clarity, spatial precision, and dynamic engagement that earned the Celata 88 critical acclaim, now delivered in a speaker more suited to intimate listening environments or visually sensitive spaces.

SpectraFlora is still a young name in high-end audio, having launched its debut product less than a year ago. But early signs suggest it’s a brand with a clear sonic philosophy and no interest in playing it safe. If the Aphelia 8 sounds anything like it looks on paper—and if the Celata 88 is anything to go by—it could be a compelling new choice for audiophiles chasing immersive realism without resorting to bulk.

The Aphelia 8 is available now for A$18,000 per pair, and can be ordered directly from SpectraFlora via their website.

Spectraflora will be exhibiting the Aphelia 8 at the 2025 StereoNET Melbourne Hi-Fi & AV Show, August 29-31, at the Pullman Mercure Hotel, Albert Park – Room 2317.
