Q Acoustics 5050 Floorstanding Loudspeaker Released

The 5050 is Q Acoustics' 5000 loudspeaker series flagship loudspeaker sitting above the Applause Award-winning 5040 and completes the range.
The largest speaker in the 5000 range, the 1017 x 386 x 336mm (HxWxD inc. spikes and stabilisers) 5050 boasts the biggest mid/bass drivers in the series and promises to fill even enormous listening rooms with dynamic and natural sound.

Alongside its series siblings, the 5050 inherits innovative cabinet and driver technology from the company's flagship Concept range, including tweeter design, Point-2-Point (P2P) bracing, Helmholtz Pressure Equalisers (HPE) tube technology, and the leading-edge C3 Continuous Curved Cone profile in the mid/bass driver.
The C3 Continuous Curved Cone profile is said to combine the bass performance benefits of a traditional straight conic cone with the high/mid-range frequency control of a flared cone.

The 25 mm high-frequency driver unit is hermetically sealed and mechanically isolated (floating) from the baffle to prevent internal pressure modulations within the cabinet and adjacent mid/bass driver. The inner chamber is also carefully vented for lower distortion, with a lower crossover point of 2.7 kHz for seamless integration.
Meanwhile, the 2 x 150 mm mid/bass drivers utilise Q Acoustics' C3 Continuous Curved Cone design. The cone's geometry requires good motor strength for optimal performance. Substantial magnets are coupled to large voice coils to increase motor strength, and Q Acoustics tells us that the result is a 50 % increase in power handling and control over a comparable driver with a 25.4 mm voice coil.

We are told that the 5050 is good for a 37 Hz - 30 kHz (-6dB) frequency response with a 6.0 Ω nominal impedance and 91.8 dB/w/m Sensitivity (1m, 2.83V @ 1kHz).
Point-2-Point internal bracing is fitted to internal areas of the cabinet susceptible to low-end frequency reverberations and promises to deliver a focused stereo image and a wider soundstage. Meanwhile, four HPE tubes inside the cabinets are said to improve frequency response further.

The baffle fronts are laminated with a layer of butyl rubber and black acrylic trim to provide a damping layer to suppress vibration occurring in the baffle. This also offers an eye-catching counterpoint to the cosmetically clean front presentation, uninterrupted by any fixings.

High-quality finishes include Satin Black, Satin White, Santos Rosewood, and Holme Oak. The 5050 floorstanding model comes with stylish solid aluminium stabilisers that feature top adjustable spikes, while durable low-profile speaker terminals provide a tidy appearance and enable the speaker to be placed closer to the back wall if required.
Q Acoustics 5050 is now available and priced at £1,299/ €1,699.
