Ortofon 2M Premounted Range Announced

Ortofon's 2M Premounted range offers a practical solution for owners of removable headshell tonearms.
Ortofon's 2M Premounted series is touted as a "practical and elegant solution" for those out there with an S-shaped tonearm looking for simpler cartridge swapping.

As you may have already surmised, this new series from the Danish phono cartridge supremos is based around its existing line of 2M offerings premounted on the company's SH-4 headshell. We're told that the SH-4 is sturdy and rigid yet accentuates a slim form factor. In addition, the robust and lightweight headshell boasts an ergonomic design complete with a long finger lift making cueing and lifting easier.

Furthermore, the headshell promises an easy and direct mount onto S-shaped tonearms sporting a universal mount. Ortofon states that fitment also results in correct Baerwald alignment with those tonearms.

As with standard 2M cartridges, the interchangeable stylus allows for upgrading later.

The entire Ortofon 2M range is available in Premounted guise from the 2M Red to the excellent 2M Black LVB 250. The 2M Premounted range is priced from £140 for the 2M Red Premounted and £859 for the 2M Black LVB 250 Premounted. In addition, the more specialist 2M 78 and 2M Mono are offered as Premounted options priced at £175 and £399, respectively.

We are told that stock is expected to arrive later this month with the 2M Blue Premounted priced at £230, the 2M Bronze Premounted costing £399 and the ever-popular 2M Black Premounted carrying a £549 RRP.
