Designed and assembled in the UK, SKYE stands just over a metre tall and joins the SEREN standmount as Ophidian's second S-series model. It's positioned as a natural step up for those wanting full-range performance without committing to the scale, or the higher price, of the brand's more established Incanto and Voodoo lines.

The driver configuration is an M-T-M arrangement, with a pair of 180mm alloy mid-bass units flanking a centrally mounted tweeter.

The aluminium cones use an indexed cone-to-surround junction, a production detail that Ophidian says tightens response through the crossover region and keeps the midrange clean where it matters most.

Bass loading is handled by Ophidian's Aeroflex system, which the company has used across its range to extract speed and depth from compact enclosures. Here, it does double duty, bracing the cabinet internally while managing port airflow to help keep distortion in check at low frequencies.

The tweeter is a 22mm soft dome unit from Norwegian driver manufacturer SEAS, the same supplier Ophidian used in the Incanto. The diaphragm is a one-piece construction coated in Sonolex, a damping compound said to control response and smooth performance, with a wide-roll surround designed to keep power handling high and distortion low. Off-axis behaviour, aided by the M-T-M layout, is said to remain consistent through the listening window.

Crossover components are sourced from Mundorf in Germany, including air-core inductors, polypropylene capacitors, and non-inductive metal-oxide resistors. It's the same brand and component approach seen in the Incanto, where the crossover drew favourable comment in our 2023 review.

A glance down the spec sheet shows that SKYE covers 30Hz to 25kHz (±3dB), with a sensitivity of 90dB and a nominal 4-ohm load. That claimed 30Hz bass extension is notable for a two-way design at this price point, we note most in the class don't reach that low with the same tolerance declared, and some don't declare one at all.

Ophidian recommends pairing it's new floorstanding act with amplification between 50 and 250 watts. Cabinets are finished in real wood veneer, in either oak or walnut, with magnetic grilles and a plinth-mounted base included.

Previous StereoNET reviews of Ophidian's Mojo 2 standmount and Incanto floorstander both landed well, earning Applause Awards, with each design demonstrating the brand's ability to build musically coherent speakers that punch comfortably above their price. The new SKYE model looks set to follow that formula, albeit with renewed emphasis on low-frequency authority and room-filling scale.

Whether it delivers the same sense of musical engagement as those earlier models is a question to be answered in the listening room. The Ophidian SKYE is available now in the UK, priced at £3,995 in oak or walnut veneer. Additional pricing and availability for the regions are yet to be confirmed.
