According to the Binghamton-based brand, the C55 Preamplifier has been "designed to captivate audiophiles, music enthusiasts, and devoted McIntosh aficionados alike".

It also inherits the legacy of its predecessor, the C53, and features an 8-band analogue equaliser for greater musical precision and a personalised audio experience. The equaliser can be bypassed if you prefer.

Meanwhile, the C2800 vacuum tube model presents "a fusion of audio passion and engineering precision" that has been "crafted to delight even the most discerning music lovers".

We are told that the C2800's vacuum tube circuitry has been developed to reduce noise and distortion as much as possible. Furthermore, the valves offer a listening experience that "exceeds expectations", whereas electronic bass and treble circuits let you adjust the volume of high and low frequencies in 1dB increments.

The manufacturer certainly seems to think that audiophiles collect various components as the new preamplifiers offer 16 inputs comprising three balanced XLR and four RCA at line level, two adjustable phono ins, and seven digital connections including HDMI, twin optical and coax, and USB. There is also Mcintosh's proprietary MCT connection, an ethernet port, and low pass and subwoofer outputs.

Of course, the C55 and C2800 offer three sets of stereo balanced and unbalanced outputs to attach to suitable power amps and enable bi-amping. Meanwhile, a 'processor loop' lets you integrate an external processor. Premium-grade DAC technology, meanwhile, promises "exquisite digital audio conversion" no matter the source played. They're also certified as Roon Tested.
