The new model represents a significant milestone for the streaming specialist, integrating precision-built digital conversion within a completely re-engineered platform.

Following the launch of the LUMIN U2X in July of this year, the X2 takes the company’s digital architecture to its next logical stage. Where the U2X refined LUMIN’s transport platform with upgraded processing and network isolation, the X2 brings those same advancements into a complete playback system — this time with a bespoke DAC at its core.

At the core of the X2 lies LUMIN’s fully custom discrete DAC — a design built component by component rather than relying on an off-the-shelf chipset. According to the company, circuit layout, power management, and system clocking have all been optimised around this new architecture to deliver maximum coherence and ultra-low noise. The result, LUMIN says, is exceptional precision and a more natural sense of musical timing in network audio playback.

The new platform introduces the brand’s latest processing system, which supports native DSD512 and 32-bit/768kHz PCM playback. Every calculation and filter within the DAC has been tailored specifically for this model, managed by dual ultra-high-speed FPGAs running a dual-mono, fully discrete architecture. Users can also upsample PCM and DSD signals to DSD256, providing additional flexibility for system tuning and sonic preferences.

Power delivery and clock design have also been completely reworked. A new dual-stage linear power supply powers the analogue circuitry, utilising twin toroidal transformers to ensure channel separation and minimise electrical interference. Meanwhile, the femto-precision clock system, distributed via FPGA, helps minimise jitter and timing errors throughout the conversion path.

Connectivity is equally future-proofed. The X2 offers both copper and optical network support, featuring an industry-standard SFP socket that provides galvanic isolation and a built-in network switch for linking additional devices, such as NAS drives. The player also features a USB digital output with native DSD512 support, as well as LUMIN’s Leedh Processing lossless digital volume control, allowing for a direct connection to power amplifiers without compromising resolution.

Building on the legacy of the highly regarded X1, the LUMIN X2 signals a new phase in the company’s evolution — one that shifts focus to proprietary conversion and total system synergy. It’s a cohesive rethink of what a modern high-end streamer can be, designed to deliver both engineering precision and musical warmth.

The LUMIN X2 is available now, priced at A$28,000 through authorised LUMIN dealers with additional regional pricing to be confirmed shortly.
