Following StereoNET’s recent coverage of the GO pod Air and UP Travel, iFi has unveiled its new flagship genuine wireless adapter: the GO pod Max. Billed as the brand's most advanced portable yet, it promises to deliver uncompromised sound for IEM users tired of choosing between quality and convenience.

Designed in Southport, UK, the GO pod Max builds upon the award-winning GO pod platform and introduces premium features wrapped in a precision-machined aluminium shell. With support for aptX Lossless, JVCKENWOOD's K2HD audio restoration, and even UV light sterilisation, it’s a significant leap in wireless design aimed squarely at audiophiles.

At the heart of the GO pod Max is the Qualcomm QCC5181 Bluetooth chipset, which can deliver CD-quality aptX Lossless streaming with zero data loss. That’s a potential maximum bitrate of ~1,200kbps—about four times that of standard Bluetooth codecs. For source devices that don’t yet support aptX Lossless, the GO pod Max also offers LDAC and aptX Adaptive compatibility.

In a bid to restore the organic feel often lost in digital compression, iFi has partnered with JVCKENWOOD to integrate K2HD Technology. Tailored specifically for the GO pod Max, the tech interpolates frequencies lost during the transition to CD-quality, reviving natural harmonics and emotional texture – a notable win for listeners with large 16-bit libraries.

The internal architecture reflects iFi’s hi-fi pedigree. Rather than relying on a single chip to handle everything, the GO pod Max separates Bluetooth reception, DAC conversion, and amplification into three distinct stages. Audio is decoded via a Cirrus Logic MasterHIFI DAC and passed to a fully balanced amplifier stage with dedicated clock management, resulting in superior performance and timing precision.

Externally, the pods are complemented by a refined aluminium charging case. It’s not just stylish—it's spacious enough to house bulkier IEMs and even features four integrated UV LEDs that sterilise your earphones between uses, helping keep things clean and fresh on the go.

Compatibility was a major design consideration. The GO pod Max includes soft, redesigned interchangeable ear loops supporting standard 2-pin and MMCX connectors, with additional options available for T2, A2DC, and Pentaconn Ear IEMs. To ensure optimal playback regardless of the earphones connected, the unit also features auto impedance matching, supporting loads from 16Ω all the way up to 300Ω.

Ease of use hasn’t been overlooked. Each pod includes built-in touch controls for managing playback, calls, and voice assistants, while dual microphones with Qualcomm cVc echo cancellation deliver impressive clarity for calls, even in noisy environments. An IPX5 water resistance rating rounds out the practicality, making the GO pod Max ideal for workouts and all-weather use.

Battery performance is equally strong. Users can expect up to 7 hours of playback on a single charge, with the aluminium case extending total runtime to 35 hours. Recharging is simple too, with both USB-C and Qi wireless support built in.

The iFi GO pod Max is available now for £599, US$599, and CA$899, with pricing for other regions to be confirmed shortly.
