HiFi Rose RS451 Head-Fi-Friendly Network Streamer

HiFi Rose's RS451 could be the ideal solution for music lovers looking to expand their traditional hi-fi or desktop headphone system.

First unveiled at Munich High End 2025, the RS451 features trickle-down technology from the flagship RS151 network streamer and boasts separate DAC circuitry for the pre-out and headphone-out options.

Packing the high-end 32-bit, 8-channel ES9027PRO DAC chip designed with ESS's HyperStream architecture, the RS451 supports PCM up to 768kHz and DSD512, promising perfect compatibility with high-resolution audio formats. Meanwhile, a variety of digital filters offer a degree of sound customisation to suit different styles of music or listening preferences.

By utilising two DAC chips within its advanced circuitry, the RS451 deploys one chip for the traditional pre-out stage and a separate one for the headphone output stage. This keeps the two signal paths completely separated.

We are also informed that the high-performance headphone stage comprises four individually driven amplifiers, which provide a strong and stable output, even for low-impedance headphones. HiFi Rose states that "further clarity and performance are guaranteed by the isolated power supply design for each channel."

The RS451 utilises Rose's Digital Processing Core (DPC) Module, initially developed for the Applause Award-winning RD160 DAC and subsequently employed in the RS151. This module precisely synchronises any digital signal the DAC receives with a high-precision Femto clock as an I2S signal. Applying clock synchronisation and locking processes should minimise jitter, resulting in accurate processing and a natural, clear sound performance.

Additionally, by isolating this module away from the wider CPU circuitry, it's possible to eliminate signal distortion and interference that's generated within the unit from the digital audio path.

Everything is linked together by ROSE OS, HiFi Rose's Android-based operating system. ROSE OS supports local network music playback within Rose's Music app, as well as CD playback and ripping via a connected optical drive. There is also support for internet radio, Spotify Connect, Tidal, Qobuz and Apple Music.

The RS451 is also Roon Ready and Plays with Audirvāna certified. In addition, the operating system offers support for video playback, either locally or within the Tidal or Rose Tube apps.

As well as ROSE OS, the RS451 makes use of the ROSE Audio Engine, an in-house development that ensures all digital audio is delivered to the DAC without loss for precise signal processing.

The upgraded 8-Core CPU (Quad Core Cortex-A76 + Quad Core Cortex-A55) used in the RS451 boasts powerful data processing and improved graphics performance courtesy of an ARM Mali-G610 MC4 GPU.

The RS451 features a well-organised rear panel layout, with careful consideration given to the spacing between ports to minimise interference between devices, making installation more convenient and flexible across various environments.

With support for high-quality Bluetooth playback, Wi-Fi, Ethernet, and USB playback, a high-resolution coaxial input (capable of handling up to 32-bit/384kHz PCM and DSD128), an optical input, an HDMI eARC connection, and traditional RCA inputs, as well as balanced and unbalanced outputs, the RS451 should seamlessly integrate into most systems.

The signature 92x430x337mm [HxWxD] HiFi Rose aluminium enclosure promises a reassuring quality that merges with high aesthetic appeal. The uncluttered fascia is home to a high-resolution, wide-angle 8-inch display flanked by 4.4, 6.3, and XLR headphone connections on one side, and a precisely machined volume knob on the other.

The HiFi Rose RS451 is available in black and silver finishes with an SRP of £2,699. We are awaiting confirmed prices for elsewhere.

applause awards

Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.

Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.

The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.

We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
