There was mild panic last summer when the Chinese electronics company announced that it was ceasing to produce their much-lauded players. However, they did promise to continue to support the disc spinners and release updates for them. This was great news for me personally as I took the leap to upgrade from the UDP-203 to the 205.

Well, Oppo continues to be good its word having released a Dolby Vision update and now support for HDR10+.

HDR10+ support means that should you also own an HDR10+-compatible TV you can now take advantage of the HDR10+ Ultra HD Blu-rays expected to hit the shelves this year.

Oppo UDP-205

According to the founder of the HDR format, Samsung, HDR10+ partner Warner Bros. plans to have over 100 titles available for digital distribution in HDR10+ early this year. It is suspected that delivery of these new format titles will be through video streaming services such as the HDR10+-supporting Amazon Prime Video. However, we also have high hopes that a large proportion will also find their way on to physical media.

Additionally, the latest Oppo update also brings additional goodies including ‘HDMI IN BYPASS’ mode for Dolby Vision passthrough via HDMI. There are also the usual "general fixes" as well as disc compatibility improvements based on recent, and upcoming UHD Blu-ray releases have been made.
