This is a notable move for the Shenzhen-based company. Fosi has built its reputation on compact, high-value amplifiers, from the ZA3 to the V3 Mono and, more recently, the BT20A MAX we covered earlier this year. The S3 takes a different role, acting as the digital front end rather than the power stage, handling streaming, decoding and system control in a single unit.

Founder and CEO Ryan Huang says the product has been in development for some time:

Since 2023, we have been focused on bringing a streamer into the Fosi ecosystem. With the S3, we are excited to introduce a system that combines streaming, decoding, and control into a single unit, giving listeners a more intuitive way to enjoy high-resolution music at home.

The S3 combines dual-band Wi-Fi 6 streaming with an AKM AK4493SEQ DAC and OPA1612 op-amps in a fully balanced circuit design. That’s a considered hardware pairing at this price point, particularly given the inclusion of both XLR and RCA outputs for flexible system matching.

Streaming support covers the major platforms, including Spotify Connect, TIDAL Connect, AirPlay 2, Google Cast and DLNA, allowing direct playback without relying on an external source device. Bluetooth 5.3 is also included, while multi-room functionality is handled via AirPlay 2 and Google Cast.

Built around Amlogic’s A113X platform, the S3 supports high-resolution playback up to 32-bit/384kHz. It also brings broader system integration into play, with HDMI eARC, optical, RCA and balanced XLR outputs, alongside a dedicated subwoofer output, allowing it to sit just as comfortably at the centre of a compact 2.1 setup as it does feeding a more traditional stereo system.

Control is managed via the Fosi Audio app, which handles setup, input switching and a built-in 5-band EQ for system tuning.

The question then becomes where the S3 fits within Fosi’s existing lineup. The ZA3 Balanced Stereo Amplifier is the natural partner, with its XLR inputs matching the S3’s balanced outputs. The V3 Mono monoblocks offer a step up for those looking to scale further, while the MC351 integrated provides a simpler 2.1 solution.

The Fosi Audio S3 is available now, priced at US$259 via Fosi Audio’s website and authorised global retailers.
