This is a large, unapologetically old-school floorstander that blends classic proportions with modern engineering.

Best known for its direct-to-consumer approach and value-led performance, Emotiva is leaning into nostalgia without turning it into novelty. The Nostala LB12 is a physically substantial design, embracing the big-cabinet philosophy of 1970s hi-fi rather than simply wrapping a modern enclosure in walnut veneer.

The three-way floorstander features a 28mm silk-dome tweeter, a 5.25-inch HyperDome fabric midrange driver, and a substantial 12-inch paper-cone woofer, all supported by dual front-firing ports. The result, on paper at least, is a speaker aimed squarely at scale, impact, and room-filling presence rather than minimalist restraint.

Construction reflects that intent. The HDF cabinet is finished in genuine walnut veneer on all surfaces, with magnetically attached fabric grilles supplied in both beige and neutral grey. Permanently attached wooden feet complete the retro look, keeping the speaker firmly in place.

Modern touches sit quietly beneath the vintage styling. Dual five-way binding posts enable bi-wiring or bi-amping, while a nominal 8-ohm impedance and 91dB sensitivity make the Nostala LB12 relatively amplifier-friendly. Emotiva recommends pairing it with an amplifier that offers solid power and current delivery to properly control the large woofer.

With heritage-inspired designs now offered by brands including Klipsch, JBL, Wharfedale, Mission, PSB, Fyne Audio, and others — and premium options from Tannoy, Revival Audio, and McIntosh further up the ladder — the Nostala LB12 arrives in a crowded but popular segment. Emotiva’s pitch is straightforward: classic scale and styling, delivered at a more accessible level.

The Emotiva Nostala LB12 floorstanding speakers are available now, priced at US$2,999 per pair, through Emotiva direct and authorised dealers.
