Elipson Improves Planet L Speaker’s Performance

Planet L Performance is the latest and improved version of Elipson's stylish spherical speakers.
While the Planet L Performance remains faithful to Elipson's timeless spherical design, this optimised version boasts significant acoustic improvements, promising an even more precise and immersive sound reproduction.

We are told that every component has been redesigned to "deliver exceptionally pure sound" while retaining the iconic elegance for which the range is renowned.

Elipson—the oldest French hi-fi manufacturer, founded in 1938—says this elevated performance is due to new driver technology and the use of high-quality components in the 18 dB / octave crossover.

The Planet L Performance retains the two-way coaxial driver design and rear reflex port, but this now benefits from a 25mm silk-treated dome tweeter with a horn cone and neodymium magnet alongside a new 16.5cm mid/bass driver with a cellulose pulp cone that has received a "damping treatment". Combined with a new Dual Asymmetric Rubber (DAR) tech, all of that aims to deliver a "perfect" pistonic effect.

Elipson tells us that the improvements result in the Planet L Performance offering greater detail, faster and more controlled bass frequencies, and a wider soundstage. The frequency response is listed as 46 Hz-20 kHz (±3dB).

Furthermore, the Planet L Performance's power handling has been increased to 100W RMS, bettering the standard Planet L's claimed 60W, which means the new model can be paired with more powerful amplifiers (up to 120W) while the 90 dB / 1W / 1m sensitivity figure remains the same.

Along with the uprated internals, the Planet L Performance has been given some aesthetic upgrades with more finishes for you to choose from. There are three types of finishes, including a matt satin finish in four colours (black, white, blue, beige), a glossy finish in three colours (black, white, red) and a Planet L Performance Gold Edition that's available in four colours (white, black, burgundy or dark green).

Finally, the Elipson Planet L Performance speakers are compatible with existing Planet accessories such as the wall bracket, a dedicated stand and a ceiling suspension mount. Consequently, there is no shortage of ways to incorporate them into your listening space.

The Elipson Planet L Performance speakers are priced at £1,200 per pair and are available from 24th March. Global pricing is yet to be confirmed.
