Audio-Technica’s AT-LP7X Turntable Takes First Spin at CES 2026

Audio-Technica’s new manual belt-drive vinyl player is unveiled in Vegas as the AT-LP7X

The latest record deck from Audio-Technica is the AT-LP7X, which slides in between the more budget-friendly AT-LP5X and the more upmarket AT-LP8X record player we reviewed in March last year.

The main differentiator between the LP7X and its stablemates is its belt-driven design, unlike the direct-drive mechanisms in the AT-LP5X and AT-LP8X. The LP7X is aimed at "vinyl enthusiasts who value precision engineering and minimalistic, timeless design."

Although fully manual, the AT-LP7X offers electronic speed control when switching between 33 1/3 and 45 RPM records, eliminating the need for one to move the belt up or down a cog.

Rotational accuracy is thanks to its optical speed-sensor system and vibration-dampening motor mount. Meanwhile, the 40mm MDF plinth in a black matte finish, 20mm acrylic platter, spring-based isolation feet and an external power supply reduce unwanted noise, ensuring an uncompromised listening experience.

The turntable comes fitted with a J-shaped aluminium tonearm boasting a dual-axis gimbal and precision bearings. This comes with a pre-mounted, Applause Award-winning AT-VM95E moving-magnet cartridge and an AT-LT10 headshell. Furthermore, when the time comes, any stylus from the VM95 Series can be used as a replacement.

The LP7X offers vertical tracking angle adjustment, anti-skate control, and a sub-counterweight, making it compatible with a wide range of cartridges and headshells.

Better still for those dipping their toes into vinyl playback for the first time or returning after a break, the LP7X has a built-in phono preamp that works with both moving magnet and moving coil cartridges, allowing you to plug it directly into a pair of active speakers.

Later, you can flick the output switch to line-level to plug the record player into your own amplifier or outboard phono stage, so the LP7X can stay with you during your upgrade journey.

The LP7X comes bundled with RCA cables, a 45 RPM adapter, a dust cover, and a 16g sub-counterweight. A larger 32g sub-counterweight can be bought separately if needed for heavier cartridge/headshell models up to 28.5g.

The Audio-Technica AT-LP7X is available now priced at £679 | €799 | US$999.
