Atlas Reworks Hyper Range with New RCA R1 and Duo R1 Designs

Atlas has expanded its Hyper cable line with two new analogue interconnects, the Hyper RCA R1 and Hyper RCA Duo R1.

It comes as part of a broader effort to simplify the Scottish brand’s range and make product naming a little more straightforward. That may sound like housekeeping, but there is a clearer commercial story underneath it. In a category where cable launches can too easily blur into one another, Atlas appears to be drawing a firmer line between its more accessible upgrade path and its more ambitious designs.

For many buyers, the more significant of the two is likely to be the Hyper RCA R1. Atlas positions it as a meaningful step up from the existing Hyper RCA, with upgraded materials, revised construction and a stronger overall finish, while still targeting a relatively accessible part of the market.

According to the launch material, it uses OCC copper conductors, an expanded polyethylene dielectric, OFC foil and braid screening, and the company’s Achromatic RCA plugs, all arranged in a symmetrical pseudo-balanced configuration intended to improve screening effectiveness.

Atlas says the cable features two identical internal OCC conductors enclosed in a double-layer, metallised and woven OFC screen, with the design configured directionally by the manufacturer. As with many pseudo-balanced interconnects, the company advises that the printed arrow should point away from the preamp.

Above it sits the Hyper RCA Duo R1, which takes a more elaborate approach both electrically and mechanically. Here, Atlas specifies OCC copper conductors, foamed PE dielectric, foil-and-OFC braid screening, and its higher-tier Ultra RCA plugs, combined with what it describes as a dual-symmetrical pseudo-balanced stranded construction.

The company says each hot and cold conductor is wrapped in its own independent woven OFC screen, with those screens connected at one end to help drain induced noise to earth via the system 0V. In Atlas’ view, that brings improvements in common-mode noise rejection, lower noise and greater dynamic expression.

Atlas also says the conductors are twisted in a precision lay to improve EMI performance, and, like the RCA R1, the Duo R1 is directional by design.

UK pricing starts at £325 for the Hyper RCA R1 in a 0.5m pair, rising to £675 for a 3.0m pair. The Hyper RCA Duo R1 starts at £755 for 0.5m and extends to £1,455 for a 3.0m pair. The RCA R1 is finished in black fabric with red and black Achromatic plugs, while the Duo R1 comes in black fabric with dark chrome Ultra plugs.
