If you don’t typically associate the brand with home cinema projection, you’re not alone. Better known for PCs and monitors, Acer has nonetheless maintained a projector range for years, and the PD1520Us signals a more deliberate push into the category.
The PD1520Us is a compact ultra-short-throw (UST) LED projector designed to deliver a 100-inch image from just a few centimetres off the wall, without drifting into the price territory normally associated with UST systems.

It’s a format that’s gaining traction, especially with apartment dwellers and renters chasing a bigger screen without the hassle of a permanent setup. Acer’s take is fairly straightforward: keep it small, keep it flexible, and don’t let the price get out of hand.
Under the bonnet, you’ll find a Full HD DLP engine, capable of accepting 4K signals and scaling them down. Brightness is rated at around 2,000 LED lumens, which places it firmly in the “controlled lighting” category rather than full daytime viewing, but should be plenty bright enough in a darker room or for evening use, scaled to its maximum 100-inch image.

The ultra-short-throw design is the real draw. Rather than requiring ceiling mounting or a long throw, the PD1520Us can sit close to the wall on a cabinet or shelf. For smaller rooms or desktop use, image size can be scaled down, giving it more versatility than most fixed-install projectors.
The LED light source is rated for up to 30,000 hours, taking you well beyond 10,000 feature-length films before replacement is even a consideration. Autofocus and automatic keystone correction keep setup simple, and at around 740 grams, it’s light enough to move easily or take with you if needed.

Connectivity comes via dual HDMI inputs for external sources, while Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and screen mirroring support bring it into line with more lifestyle-focused projection products. There’s also a built-in smart platform for direct app access, although as always, performance in this category tends to vary.
Then there’s an optional battery pack, rated for up to two hours of playback. This adds another layer of flexibility, positioning the PD1520Us as something that can just as easily end up on a balcony or in the backyard.

Priced at £550 | €650, with a Touch variant slightly higher at £650 | €700 places it below most compact UST rivals. Acer is clearly aiming for a middle ground here: big-screen convenience without the usual cost or install demands. We’ll reserve judgement until we’ve seen it properly, but it’s another sign the UST category is shifting beyond its premium base.
