Aavik M-880 Completes Audio Group Denmark’s Flagship Vision

Audio Group Denmark has announced the launch of the Aavik M-880, a new reference mono power amplifier developed to partner the company’s most ambitious loudspeaker projects.

Handcrafted in Aalborg, Denmark, the M-880 is described as the most uncompromising execution yet of Aavik’s Class A amplification philosophy and a direct response to the demands of the Børresen M8 Gold Signature loudspeaker.

As loudspeaker design continues to push boundaries in speed, resolution and dynamic scale, Aavik argues that conventional stereo amplifier architectures can struggle to maintain absolute control. The M-880 instead adopts a true mono topology, delivering complete channel independence and significant current reserves, conceived as part of a holistic system approach rather than a standalone component.

Central to the new model is what Aavik calls a reimagined Class A output stage. Rather than operating as a traditional high-bias design with substantial heat penalties, the M-880 maintains its output stage at a precisely controlled 0.63V above the required current at all times. The aim is to preserve the linearity and harmonic integrity associated with pure Class A operation, while reducing operating temperature and improving long-term reliability.

Power delivery is substantial. Each monoblock is rated at 400 watts into 8 ohms, doubling to 800 watts into 4 ohms and delivering approximately 1,300 watts into 2 ohms. A quoted damping factor exceeding 1,000 into 8 ohms suggests formidable grip over even the most complex loudspeaker loads, reinforcing the M-880’s positioning as a no-compromise solution for reference systems.

Rather than relying on a traditional linear power supply, Aavik employs four high-speed, low-noise switching power supplies operating in power-factor-corrected resonant mode. The company contends that this approach reduces noise compared with conventional square-wave switching designs, while dynamically adjusting operating frequency in response to musical demand. Each supply is rated at 500W / 20A, supported by a substantial 266 mF local energy storage bank capable of storing up to 1,050 joules and delivering peak currents of up to 130 amps.

Thermal efficiency gains have also enabled the placement of local capacitor banks directly adjacent to each output transistor pair, shortening current paths and reducing noise. Noise suppression extends beyond the power stage, with extensive use of proprietary Aavik and Ansuz technologies, including Active Tesla Coils, Active Square Tesla Coils, third-generation analogue dither circuitry and Anti-Aerial Resonance Coils applied to internal wiring.

Mechanical and enclosure design have been given equal emphasis. Each amplifier ships with four Ansuz Darkz Z3w resonance control devices. At the same time, the enclosure itself features a multi-layer construction incorporating a wood-based laminate sandwiched between titanium and stainless-steel plates, and a fully copper internal chamber for EMI/RFI shielding. The exterior design, developed by Flemming Erik Rasmussen in collaboration with Michael Børresen, follows a strict form-follows-function brief.

Physically, the M-880 is imposing, measuring approximately 79.4cm high, 34.2cm wide and 51.0cm deep, and weighing 70kg per unit. Total harmonic distortion is specified at below 0.007 per cent (10W, 1kHz, 8 ohms), with standby consumption under 0.5W and idle draw quoted at 150W. Each unit undergoes CNC machining, cryogenic processing and extensive electrical verification before final listening comparison against a reference standard prior to shipment.

Priced at €100,000 each, the Aavik M-880 sits firmly in the ultra-high-end category. Whether viewed as a technical tour de force or as part of a broader Audio Group Denmark ecosystem strategy, it represents a clear statement of intent: amplification conceived not merely as power delivery, but as a tightly integrated partner in the pursuit of ultimate system coherence.
