Selling my VDH The Rock RCA 1 meter pair.
About The Van den Hul 3T The Rock Hybrid RCA to RCA Cable
The 3T The Rock Hybrid is the most popular 3T balanced interconnect in the Van den Hul line up. It represents the price versus performance sweet spot and can play well in even quite high end systems.
The 2 centre conductors are each made of 12 x 3T conductors: 1 x 400 micron surrounded by 11 x 150 micron and each conductor is covered with an extra LSC coating.
The triple-layered shielding has a 2 + 1 structure. It combines two layers made of heavy silver-coated copper strands and one layer made of Linear Structured Carbon (LSC) for damping spurious signals.
The 3T The Rock Hybrid is a very successful design which has made many of our customers very happy.
Van den Hul 3T True Transmission Technology
Van den Hul are world leaders in cable design and use advanced material design and cutting edge technologies to deliver life-like sound. With their 3T range of cables, they use a proprietary amorphous alloy of metals and non-metals that together make a conductor with an almost ideal set of properties for Hi-Fi cables, found in no other brand; no oxidation or metal fatigue, extended strain relief, stable at extremely high as well as low temperatures, no electroplating chemicals involved, very flexible and an extremely long life-span.
3T Cables have a number of benefits which are unique due to the materials and construction design.
No material fatigue problems to avoid dramatic sound-quality reductions over time.
Never any surface or internal oxidation to avoid long-term sonic harshness.
A very stable amorphous structure which is essential for high-quality live sound including stable high resolution on very low signal levels.
Very flexible fibres which means no mechanical stress in the conductors in any situation.
No chemical ageing which neatly avoids any decline in the sound quality over time.
No mechanical ageing which means there will never be any deterioration of the transmission quality.
Very low number of internal boundaries to avoid Cross Crystal Distortion (C.C.D.).
The innovative 3T conductors produce the highest signal resolution possible
Comes with box in excellent condition.

Build quality is consistently rated high, featuring three carbon-covered center conductors, multi-layer silver/carbon shielding, flexible bright-yellow jacket, and premium gold-plated RCA connectors that grip securely; the 3T technology minimizes inductance for optimal transmission. Users note solidity and durability from carbon composites, though some related VDH cables feel stiff and hard to bend.
Reliability appears excellent based on long-term use reports, with no common failure mentions; the rigid, amorphous conductors resist aging, acid, and mechanical stress.
Weaknesses are minor and mixed: some find the sound "a bit flat and un-involving" despite accuracy, or note stiffness and higher price relative to budget options; one older VDH model (not The Rock) was called dull. Positive-feedback.com retired its reference cable for The Rock, signaling top reliability in practice.
Overall reputation is stellar as an "overachiever" and best value in Van den Hul's 3T line, popular worldwide (especially outside the US) for satisfying most audiophiles at ~$650 for 0.8m, though a few prefer competitors for excitement. Community views emphasize neutrality and musicality over flaws.
Prices vary significantly by condition, with new units commanding a premium over used ones; a 2m used pair in excellent condition listed for sale in Australia (with shipping included) reflects strong second-hand value relative to retail.
### Key Price Data from Australian Sources
| Condition/Length | Price (AUD, incl. GST where noted) | Source Notes |
|------------------|------------------------------------|--------------|
| New, 1m pair (RCA/XLR) | $999 | Retail listing. |
| New, 1.5m (RCA) | $1,499 (RRP) | Authorized dealer reference. |
| Used, 2m pair (RCA, excellent condition) | For sale (price dropped, exact final amount unspecified but implies discount from RRP) | First-owner sale, Australia-wide shipping included. |
Factors affecting value:
- Length: Shorter cables (1m) are cheaper than longer ones (1.5–2m), with custom lengths adding cost.
- Condition: Used cables in excellent condition retain 60–80% of new value, depending on age and accessories (e.g., no CD included lowers appeal).
- Termination: RCA is standard; XLR options available at similar pricing.
- Market dynamics: Limited recent listings suggest prices hold steady near RRP for new stock, with hi-fi forums showing occasional deals on used pairs; international USD pricing (~$622, or ~$950 AUD) indicates Australian premiums. No widespread discounts noted as of available data.
