WiiM Ultra - What We Know About Price, Release & Spec

WiiM Audio has impressed many with its Pro Plus and WiiM Amp, but a new WiiM Ultra streamer/ pre-amplifier will be unveiled at High End Munich 2024.

The WiiM Ultra is pitched as a central digital hub for your audio ecosystem. It features audiophile-grade components, a wide range of audio connections, and a vibrant 3.5-inch full-colour touchscreen wrapped in an aluminium case. We're told to expect advanced room correction and smart home integration alongside hi-res audio skills and the ability to be connected directly to powered speakers or a power amp and speakers.

WiiM Ultra price and specs

As with previous WiiM products, it seamlessly connects with a wide range of devices thanks to a dedicated phono input with ground connector, HDMI ARC input, front-mounted 3.5mm headphone jack, optical in/out, analogue line-in/out, coaxial out, subwoofer out and USB-A for media playback. There is also an Ethernet port and 12-volt trigger for connected amp.

It’s virtually guaranteed that the Ultra will support all of the features of its stablemates such as Apple AirPlay 2, Chromecast, Bluetooth, Tidal Connect, and Spotify Connect. We can also assume that Roon certification is in the pipeline.

We don't have any additional specification details besides the fact that the Ultra will be empowered by an upgraded DAC compared to the units currently offered in the Applause Award-winning Pro Plus and Amp

WiiM ULTRA PRICE

The latest we've heard is that WiiM has just posted a poll on their forum asking readers to vote for the price point—not many suppliers would do this. $349 USD, $399 USD, or $449 USD seem to be the prices it's shooting for, and it's asking members to vote to “set a fair price that reflects the quality and features of the WiiM Ultra while ensuring it remains accessible to our community.”

The WiiM Ultra will launch on May 9, 2024, at the HighEnd Munich 2024 Show and be on shelves in Q2 2024.

applause awards

Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.

Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.

The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.

We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
