Vertere DG-1 S Record Player Announced

Vertere announces improvements and updates to its DG-1 record player in the shape of the new Vertere DG-1 S turntable.

Vertere's DG-1 S turntable is an updated and improved version of the original DG-1 'Dynamic Groove' deck, launched three years ago.

We were impressed by the DG-1 Redline package, which our James Michael Hughes described as “both inviting and relaxing to listen to”, and recognised its performance with an Applause Award. Needless to say, we're intrigued to see what Vertere has done with the DG-1 S.

Beyond the familiar silhouette of the DG-1 S, thanks to the distinctive plinth and unique flat tonearm of the original, Vertere states that there has been plenty of adjustments throughout the design, resulting in significant performance gains, including greater detail, improved dynamics, and more precise stereo separation.

Firstly, the new Groove Runner S tonearm is now made of two five-layered polymer laminates (the previous model was triple-layered and used aluminium alloy alongside polymer) with the PCB flex signal carrier bonded in-between. Furthermore, we are told that the profile of the arm and bearing has improved the counterweight/bearing/headshell/cartridge alignment.

Vertere uses threads for the tonearm bearings, and this updated arm sees the vertical Kevlar thread able to be adjusted for tension and azimuth. Meanwhile, the horizontal nylon thread is now fitted with greater precision to ensure even greater consistency, according to the British-based company.

Additionally, improvements to the platter bearing promise to deliver lower noise and less rotational variability. Finally, the new motor drive software and coupling between the three plinth layers have been tweaked to reduce noise and vibration.

The Vertere DG-1 S record player promises the plug-and-play enjoyment of the original and comes with a Magneto cartridge fitted for £3,550/ €4,148 from September 2022.
