The Buzz Trolls - How Kids Cure a Hi-Fi Problem
Andreas and Emma Svalander warns future hi-fi enthusiasts of problems caused by The Buzz Trolls.
The Buzz Trolls storybook is the brainchild of Swedish husband and wife hi-fi retailers and authors Andreas and Emma Svalander.
Svalander Audio AB is a hi-fi store based in Västerås, Sweden (a country famous for its Trolls) and run by the husband and wife team who also appear pretty handy at explaining the blight of buzz in your audio system to a younger audience.
Emma came up with the original idea for this new children's book. Handily she's also a renowned illustrator (this is her third book), filmmaker and photographer.
Andreas explained that lightbulb moment to StereoNET:
Emma came running through the office like a wet dog who just collected a ball from a stream, saying “What if we all have been tricked, what if the hum and the buzz in the stereo is not some technical thing, but monsters chewing on the cables? I want to draw this in a book!” Well, that was it, and two days later, I had written the basis of the story.
The book leads you through a real hi-fi problem and its solution as well as being filled with terms, situations and brands that every hi-fi enthusiast will recognise.
The original Swedish version, 'Brumfällan', was sent to various book bloggers by Andreas. We're told that, after reading the book, quite a few kids asked their parents “Why don't we listen to music like that?”, or just stated, “We need to listen to more music”.
John Armer, managing director of Russ Andrews, told StereoNET:
This is a great reaction from the kids – if we can interest even a few members of a younger generation to really listen to music through quality audio systems, then we will have achieved something. And if all they get is a laugh from the book, then that's equally great.
John goes on to add:
Andreas sent us a copy of his book to read, and we were rolling around when we read it. In an industry that can sometimes take itself a little too seriously, it is a refreshing change to see something like this book emerge from the imagination of someone right at the heart of the business we are part of.
With hi-fi systems getting even more use over the past few months due to the lockdown restrictions and families spending more time listening to music together this lighthearted look at our passion could well be the perfect thing - no matter how old or young you are.
The Buzz Trolls is available now for £10.95 direct from Russ Andrews.
