Sonos Arc, Five and Sub (Gen 3) Announced
Sonos has revealed its new Sonos Arc soundbar that replaces both the Playbar and Playbase. Also released is the third generation Sub and Five, a refreshed Sonos Play:5.
The Sonos Arc will be available from June 10th for £799 and supports Dolby Atmos as well as taking pretty much anything you can stream at it.
Sonos says that the Arc features eleven high-performance drivers, including two that are upward-firing for 3D audio. The Arc has apparently been tuned in partnership with Oscar-winning mixing engineers and, thanks to some nifty software, will adjust its sound profile based on the home theatre set-up and what's playing, whether stereo, Dolby Digital 5.1, or Dolby Atmos.
Additionally, you can refine Arc's sound in the new Sonos app with features including Speech Enhancement to clarify vocals, Night Sound to temper loud explosions, and an update to Sonos' Trueplay tuning technology.
Arc, available in matte black and matte white, sports a 270-degree rounded plastic grille and is equally happy sat in front of a TV or mounted to the wall with a separate custom-designed wall mount. A simple connection through HDMI eARC or ARC keeps set-up easy.
Patrick Spence, Sonos CEO, told StereoNET:
Home has never played a more important role in our lives, and we've always been about making the home more enjoyable with great sounding products and new experiences. Arc brings the sounds of our favourite shows and artists to life like never before. Our goal is to make any room you have a television a place you can easily enjoy all of the excellent streaming video and music that exists today. Arc illustrates our commitment to brilliant sound and premium design and sets a new standard for soundbars.
Built on Sonos' next-generation S2 software platform, control Arc from the new Sonos app, an existing TV remote, with voice using Amazon Alexa or the Google Assistant, and Apple AirPlay 2.
Sonos Sub (Gen 3) and Sonos Five
Sonos has also introduced two further updates - Sonos Sub (Gen 3) and Sonos Five, the latter replacing Play:5 (Gen 2).
Sonos Sub has been a long-time favourite for added bass when wirelessly connected to a Sonos speaker. The new Sub is available in both black and white for £699.
Sonos Five can be used as a standalone speaker horizontally or pair two Fives in the upright position for stereo separation. Furthermore, Sonos says you can use the line-in to connect a record player for playback through the Five.
Sonos Five is available in black with a black grille and, for the first time, white with a white grille for £499. General availability for the new Sub and Five starts on June 10th.
New Sonos App
The new Sonos app will drop on June 8th and promises users an upgraded software platform that will power the next generation of products and experiences from Sonos, including Arc, Five, and the third generation Sub. The three new products will run exclusively on the new app.
This also means that those of you with older Sonos devices won't be able to use the new app with your current kit.
This new generation app features support for higher resolution audio technologies, evident with the Dolby Atmos experience on Arc, as well as increased security and improved design for easier use.
User interface updates make it even simpler for customers to search for content, control sound and personalise the experience with new features starting with saved room groups.
Sonos fans moving over to the new app are reassured that all your favourites, services, and settings will be saved.
