Sonos Adds Dolby Atmos to Next-Gen Beam Soundbar

The Beam (Gen 2) soundbar from Sonos to incorporate Amazon Music HD and Dolby Atmos Music, handing you more ways to enjoy your favourite tracks.

Sonos Beam (Gen 2) is the latest version of the compact smart soundbar. However, the new iteration is not only looking to bolster your TV, movie, and gaming enjoyment thanks to Dolby Atmos support but its music playback skills are also being upgraded.

Sonos has revealed plans to offer Ultra HD and Dolby Atmos Music later this year via Amazon Music, giving you the ability to experience the highest quality streaming music and immersive 3D audio.

We are told that the new Beam packs more processing power mated to newly developed phased speaker arrays. This promises to steer and localise sound around the room for a lifelike experience. Additionally, the speaker now features HDMI eARC, adding support for high-quality advanced audio codecs in addition to the 100+ streaming services available to the Beam (Gen 2) via the Sonos app.

Furthermore, Sonos plans to support Amazon Music’s Ultra High Definition audio for up to 24-bit / 48kHz playback on your S2 Sonos speakers (except Play:1, Play:3, Playbase, and Playbar), as well as Dolby Atmos Music on Arc and Beam (Gen 2).

Sonos also announced plans to add support for decoding DTS Digital Surround Sound later this year via the S2 platform on Playbar, Playbase, Amp, both generations of Beam and Arc.

You can fine-tune Beam’s sound with Trueplay, which detects and adapts the speaker’s sound for reflections off of walls and furniture, giving you the best listening experience for your room and setup.

All of this tech is wrapped in an updated design with a polycarbonate grille that’s precisely perforated to allow the speaker to sound great and blend seamlessly into your home. Setup should be simple, thanks to the Sonos Beam (Gen 2) just needing two cables and it sporting new NFC capabilities. Simply open the Sonos app, follow a few prompts and tap your phone to Beam.

Sonos Beam (Gen 2) will be available starting 6 October for £449/ €499.
