Pro-Ject Stereo Box E Compact Integrated Amplifier
The new Stereo Box E is a keenly-priced, desktop-friendly integrated amplifier ideal for those starting their stereo journey.
Pro-Ject's Stereo Box E is the company's latest integrated amplifier. It boasts a competitive price and compact footprint. Pro-Ject states that the new amp is “the ideal starter amplifier for music lovers who want to take their listening experience to a new level.”
Sitting below Pro-Ject's MaiA S3 range, it claims 42 watts of power at 8 ohms (21 watts per channel). The Stereo Box E's circuitry has been designed to provide “proper hi-fi stereo enjoyment.” Moreover, we're told it shoots for a level of audio quality “usually seen in much more expensive amplifiers.”
Handily, especially if you've not had to accommodate a hi-fi system before, Pro-Ject's new amp measures just 5.1cm x 20.6 x 11.5cm (HxWxD). Furthermore, despite its diminutive size, it still offers a raft of connectivity options, which should see it in service as your system grows.
The Stereo Box E features an RCA input, a 3.5mm aux input, and a moving magnet phono input for connecting a turntable. Digital inputs are serviced by coaxial and dual optical ports. For wireless streaming, the Stereo Box E offers aptX HD-capable Bluetooth 5.0 connectivity, while a built-in headphone amplifier means you can enjoy late-night listening via the 3.5mm headphone port.
Meanwhile, a 5V/1A USB C power output is a convenient solution should you plan to add one of the low-power streamers to the system. This will enable you to power it from the Stereo Box E and not rely on another power socket. Additionally, the dedicated subwoofer output grants the option of boosting the bass performance of your system should it need to.
All of that is wrapped up in a heavy-duty steel case that promises to protect the internal electronics from outside interference. This is topped off by a brushed aluminium front panel sporting aluminium buttons. Volume and input selection can be controlled via the unit's front panel or the supplied remote control.
The new amp is perfect for partnering with the matching E1 turntable and a set of Speaker Box 5E standmounts (as seen in the Juke Box E1 Set) to create the Stereo Set E1. Alternatively, you can match it with the CD Box E CD player and two Speaker Box 3E Carbon speakers to create the 'CD Set E' playback system. These bundled sets are exclusive to the UK market.
The Pro-Ject Stereo Box E integrated amplifier is available now in black or silver finishes. The new amp is priced at £249/ €299. Bought as one of the Stereo Set E1 or CD Set E systems, it costs £699 and £599, respectively.
