Philips TVs Get DTS Play-Fi Streaming Smarts

Philips televisions and soundbars are getting DTS Play-Fi streaming multi-room skills.

Philips has announced that its current TV and audio offerings will get DTS Play-Fi wireless streaming and so become part of your multi-room audio system. This also goes for future Philips AV kit.

For starters, the new Philips 800 Series OLED TVs, as well as all the 2020 Android TV range will soon feature DTS Play-Fi. Additionally, the 2019 Philips Android models will gain support over a free over-air firmware update in the coming months.

Furthermore, September will see a new range of Philips soundbars and wireless speakers which will also be equipped with Play-Fi.

The partnership with DTS not only means that Philips products will support Play-Fi, but it also means that the compatible products will play nice with similarly DTS Play-Fi enriched products from other brands, such as the newly announced Quad Artera Solus Play (below).

Currently, Play-Fi lets you connect up to 32 devices together to stream hi-res audio from services such as Spotify, Tidal and Amazon or from your NAS device. Naturally, everything can be controlled from the DTS Play-Fi app.

It looks like the DTS Play-Fi is really taking the fight to the other multi-room ecosystems.
