McIntosh Launches C12000 Twin-Chassis Pre-Amp / Controller

McIntosh has announced its two-chassis C12000 Preamplifier, isolating the audio section from the control and power sections.

McIntosh's C12000 comprises the C12000 Controller Module and the C12000 Preamplifier Module, which work seamlessly when connected. Putting these units in separate chassis results in the purest sound reproduction possible, so the Binghamton audio specialist says.

All power control, data ports, and external control connections are located within the C12000 Controller, where dual isolated power supplies drive the left and right channels. Added robustness to the control system comes by way of a dual microprocessor.

The C12000 Preamplifier Module houses the audio connections and circuitry with left and right channels electrically and mechanically isolated, enabling true dual mono operation. Connectivity includes a dozen analogue inputs, including six balanced, four unbalanced, and a pair of programmable phono inputs that allow for adjustable capacitance and resistance loading. Additionally, the phono stage utilises four 12AX7A vacuum tubes, with two valves per channel in a fully balanced configuration incorporating RIAA equalisation.

The McIntosh C12000 features a high-output, high drive headphone jack with user-selectable Headphone Crossfeed Director (HXD) for late-night listening.

The controller and preamplifier units are connected via high-performance umbilical cables specifically designed to prevent outside noise from leaking into the audio signal. Moreover, the C12000offers both vacuum tube and solid-state output for maximum flexibility of listening options. We are informed that the C12000 employs fully balanced circuitry to match the level of performance achieved in any of McIntosh's Quad Balanced amplifiers.

Furthermore, as well as the C12000 being paired with various amplifiers, speakers, and source components, it can be seamlessly integrated within a multi-channel home theatre system via the Home Theater Pass Through feature.

Both units feature a stainless steel chassis, polished to a mirror finish, alongside hairline brushed black Titanium stainless steel. Then, of course, there are also the iconic black glass front panels, blue meters, and custom machined-brushed aluminium handles.

Orders for the C12000 can now be placed with authorised McIntosh dealers, with shipping expected to begin in early 2022. The price is £8,495 per unit or £16,990 for the complete preamplifier.
