The third quarter of 2019 sees three new models join Magico’s most affordable range, the A-Series. Today, the Californian-speaker builder has announced a pair of standmount speakers called the A1, alongside the AAC centre speaker and ASUB active subwoofer.

This will make the A1 the most bank account-friendly way of owning a pair of Magico speakers, while the AAC and ASUB deliver a complete A-Series home cinema solution.

Naturally, these new loudspeakers will join the A3 floorstander which was released last year and boasts fully braced and anodised aircraft-grade aluminium enclosures with carbon Nanographene cones, beryllium tweeters and Magico’s renowned Elliptical Symmetry Crossover network.

Magico A1

Kicking off with the most affordable Magico yet, the A1, you still get an enclosure constructed using 3⁄8-inches thick 6061 T6 aircraft grade aluminium, similar to the chassis developed for the Q1. Furthermore, it is presented in an elegant brushed-aluminium, black anodised finish.

An innovative internal bracing technique along with the most advanced damping materials makes the sealed enclosure incredibly rigid and free of unwanted mechanical resonances.

The A1 also shares the same tweeter as the full range A3, a pure Beryllium-diaphragm with an optimised 28-mm dome based on the design platform and geometry of our reference M-Series tweeter. The customised neodymium motor system is encased in an improved posterior chamber with the company's latest generation damping materials that facilitate ultra-low distortion, higher power handling, extensive dynamic capabilities, and extended linear voice coil movement.

Joining the tried-and-tested tweeter is a newly developed 6.5-inch mid-bass driver featuring a Multi-Wall carbon fibre cone with a layer of XG Nanographene, which adds up to providing optimal stiffness to weight ratio and an ideal damping factor. Here, the motor system incorporates extra-large magnets to ensure a stabilised magnetic field in the 39-mm pure titanium voice coil. The A1 mid-bass driver is optimised for minimal music related distortions in its bandpass, in both the frequency and time domains.

The drivers in the A1 are acoustically integrated using Magico’s proprietary Elliptical Symmetry Crossover topology that utilises state-of-the-art components from Mundorf of Germany. The 2-way network features a 24db per octave Linkwitz-Riley filter that maximises frequency bandwidth while
preserving phase linearity and minimising intermodulation distortion.

Magico AAC

Again, the familiar 3⁄8-inch thick 6061 T6 aircraft grade aluminium has been used for the enclosure and comes in the brushed black anodised finish. Also, the sealed enclosure features the same internal bracing technique and damping materials mentioned earlier.

The ACC tweeter follows the A3 with a pure Beryllium-diaphragm tweeter with an optimised 28-mm dome surface with a customised neodymium motor system encased in an improved back chamber for ultra-low
distortion, higher power handling, extensive dynamic capabilities and extended linear voice coil movement.

The 6-inch midrange driver is also the same as in the A3, sporting a Multi-Wall carbon fibre cone with a layer of XG Nanographene. An overhung neodymium-based motor system incorporates extra-large magnets to ensure a stabilised magnetic field in the 75-mm pure titanium voice coil.

For incredibly deep and fast extended low bass frequencies the AAC implements a pair of 7-inch bass drivers. These are the same units as found in the A3.

Magico ASUB

The ASUB enclosure shares principles of the QSUB architecture with 3/8-inch thick 6061 T6 aluminium, and the like. The brushed, black anodised finish is also in evidence here too.

The ASUB utilises a newly developed Magico 10-inch aluminium driver that has an ultra-stiff aluminum cone with optimal stiffness to weight ratio.

The driver is calibrated to minimise music related distortions in the low-frequency range using the latest state of the art FEA simulation of acoustics, mechanics, electromagnetic and thermal behaviour which are now completed on a single platform which enhances the level of accuracy.

The front firing driver has a mighty magnet assembly which is capable of generating deep, powerful, controlled bass frequencies with speed and accuracy. The pure Titanium 55mm voice coil motor system provides a super stabilised magnetic field with a long excursion rate and is capable of reproducing 50Hz at 110dB with minimal distortion.

The ASUB’s digital amplifier delivers 500 Watts of purpose-built power and promises seamless integration thanks to the digitally-controlled active crossover and onboard DSP control. Rounding off the features are 3-memory presets to store individual settings; auto-detect, auto-shutdown, anti-clip and thermal protection.

The relatively small footprint of the ASUB is capable of generating colossal air pressure changes in the listening room and will provide incredibly deep, powerful bass with the speed and integrity of the main loudspeakers. The front firing design of the ASUB is easy to position in the listening room and
will make a new sonic contribution to the overall sound performance of any system.
