Klipsch R-60M Bookshelf Speakers Claim Seriously Big Sound

Klipsch promises its compact R-60M loudspeakers offer “full-range sound” from its mid-price design.

Klipsch's R-60M standmounters complete its existing Reference range of affordable speakers, launched in 2022. Unsurprisingly, the new R-60M slips in above the R-40M and R-50M bookshelf units, with Klipsch aiming to offer a range of affordable standmount speakers capable of seamlessly slotting straight into your home cinema set-up or hi-fi system, integrating perfectly with the rest of the Reference line.

Klipsch R-60M

The largest standmount model in Klipsch's Reference series, the R-60M promises a “big, full-range sound” from a pair of units with a relatively small footprint of 400x203x336mm [HxWxD] each.

The R-60M features a 25mm aluminium 'Linear Travel Suspension' tweeter with Kapton suspension designed to minimise distortion for more detail at the top end. Aluminium was chosen for its lightweight yet rigid properties.

Each unit also houses a 16cm spun-copper TCP woofer augmented by a rear-firing Tractrix port. Thanks to trickle-down technology from Klipsch's Reference Premiere series, the new woofer offers steeper cone angling for “a smoother response” and “improved accuracy and transparency”, according to the brand.

The new speakers also harness Klipsch's 90°x90° Tractrix horn technology to deliver the “power, detail and emotion of a live music experience”, with a larger, 'edge-to-edge' outer horn aiming for better high-frequency directivity and a more accurate soundstage.

The resulting speakers have a quoted 50Hz-21kHz (± 3dB) frequency response, 93.5dB in-room sensitivity, and an 8ohm nominal impedance.

Klipsch has given these standmounts a sleek scratch-resistant vinyl textured wood grain finish to the speaker cabinets that also employ a reinforced 20mm MDF construction, bolstered by a new bracing design that we're told helps reduce cabinet vibration for less distortion and improved sonic accuracy.

The Klipsch R-60M speakers are available in a black textured vinyl finish and are priced at £425/ €449.
