GoldenEar Releases Updated ForceField Ultra-Compact Subwoofers

The highly anticipated ForceField 30 and Forcefield 40 ultra-compact extended-response subwoofers from GoldenEar Technology are now available.

The company says they're “engineered from the ground up “to deliver subtle musical detail, well-extended bass, high-impact slam, and the solid foundation for an expansive soundstage — all from attractive, compact enclosures that easily fit into any environment.”

Following a simple design brief closely, the new ForceField subwoofers are said to “achieve uncompromising, state-of-the-art subwoofer performance from the smallest-possible enclosures”. The new releases for 2022 are said to boast significant sonic and cosmetic refinements over the company's previous ForceField 3 and ForceField 4 models.

Firstly, the new releases have adopted a BRX model-inspired curved top panel the company says “minimises cabinet resonances”. The cabinet wall thickness has also been increased to prevent absorbing and smearing important bass transient information and impact, while a perforated metal grille improved sonic transparency and airflow.

Analog Devices' DSP has been implemented to offer a flatter, more extended frequency response for cleaner, deeper bass and lower distortion. The MOSFET output stage and improved implementation results in greater power-transfer efficiency.

Driver configuration has also been optimised for the ultra-long-throw bass driver that the company says offers “superior transient performance for natural detail”. The new ForceField subwoofer also employs a Quadratic Planar Infrasonic Radiator - a downward firing pressure-coupled loading promises to extend usable bass performance “to the infrasonic region”. This is also said to approximate the “near perfect impedance of a well-tuned transmission line, but with superior transient performance and control”.

GoldenEar's Forcefield 30 and ForceField 40 subwoofers achieve an overall result that is “agile, musical, room-filling bass equally suited to thrilling soundtracks, stirring orchestral pieces, propulsive pop music, and everything in between”, according to the company.

ForceField 30 utilises one 8-inch long-throw high-output bass driver, one 9- x 11-inch quadratic planar infrasonic radiator, and is powered by a 1000-watt amplifier, with a quoted frequency response of 18Hz-250Hz, weighing 14.3kgs. Available now, it sells for £799/ €899 RRP.

ForceField 40 steps it up with one 10-inch long-throw high-output bass driver, one 11- x 13-inch quadratic planar infrasonic radiator, and is powered by a 1200 watt amplifier, with a quoted frequency response of 14Hz-250Hz, and weighs 18.4kgs. Also available now, it sells for £1,099/ €1,199 RRP.
